Rothko (Basic Art Series 2.0)

I bought this as a gift so I wasn't able to do much more than flip through it, so I can't offer an extremely thorough review. It arrived in shrink wrap, but I removed it to make sure the cover wasn't damaged that I would be satisfied with the book before I gave it as a gift. The text seems like a good balance for someone who wants an introduction to Rothko. It looked informative and spanned his entire career. It seemed like very readable prose--not overly difficult. The quality of the images was very high and I was very pleased with what was included. My friend really liked the book as well. (There is another Rothko book that is selling for a higher price that only includes an introduction and then is all images. I felt this one was a much better purchase.)

There is something different to how they do the printing of images. Thick and textured. It makes it feel like you have a miniature version of the painting in your hand. I prefer the printing used in the Taschen books over anything I have seen in othe books and prints.

These books are great, particularly when you have several from the set. For the price, they’re a good option to elevate your decor. Simple but effective

I have been a Rothko fan for years, and one of my dreams is to own a gallery with only Rothko paintings. Since I can’t do that, this book is perfect. I have over 400 Rothko pictures on my Pinterest on my phone, but this is the perfect coffee table book to look at anytime I want. I recommend it to all Rothko fans.

If you read about forgeries, you probably know that one of the paintings in this edition (and not the first by any means) is a forgery. The forger copped to it, but here it is in the book edition after edition. Have fun figuring out which isn't Rothko's! Otherwise, outstanding writing, gorgeous plates,the usual Taschen product.

I've never known much about Rothko but have always been curious about his work. This little book has just enough pictures and information to satisfy me.

I like using these beautiful cards for a variety of different notes, from thank you, to sympathy. I am a fan of Rothko paintings and feel these cards convey a variety of thoughtfulness.

Print quality superb. I will enjoy this for many years to come

mi aspettavo un volume in inglese, invece il primo quartino di pagine è in spagnolo. devo dire che la cosa non mi turba, parlando entrambe le lingue, ed anzi la ritengo una copia di valore visto il curioso difetto. taschen è comunque una garanzia, la qualità della stampa e del volume, a quel prezzo, mi costringe ad aggiungere un titolo nuovo ad ogni ordine che faccio, qualora il totale non qualifichi per la consegna gratuita. consiglio di fare altrettanto.

First, this hard cover book is of great quality. The art within is engaging and the way it is illustrated is eloquent. As a first attempt at reading a book on art, it is very engaging and the content brings you through Rothko’s evolution as an artist. I recommend.
