Do I have to purchase a special basin for this or will just any plastic tub work?

I believe any large plastic tub can work. The advantage with a tub made for these foot baths are that they would have an indented area for the array to sit in. But, I don't think that would be mandatory.

Does it come with the basin

It comes with a soft bag basket type one for on the go .
