Going Medieval

I always love Mike Loades' passion for history and recreating it. He's so passionate about his subject that he makes even mundane things like brushing teeth interesting. I've seen many programs on knights and castles, and some of that is covered here, but the real focus is the every day life of medieval people, both nobility and peasants. Technology, pastimes, customs, and more are covered. While no documentary can perfectly cover everything, this is a great overview of Medieval life with a variety of topics covered.

You can always tell when someone has a real passion for a subject and Mr. Loades clearly shows his passion for medieval history in this program. I saw it on cable on a Sunday morning and by the 20 minute mark knew I would have to have a copy of it on the shelf. You get the sense that hours of interesting facts were left on the editing room floor, because Mr. Loades has one factoid after another to share. I highly recommend this for anyone with even a basic interest in history.

This show is great for entertainment and ideas on Medieval life.Mr. Loades makes it fun to watch.Editing makes the show appear 'choppy' when watched without commercials.Main complaint is the "Closed Captioning", checked it on three different systems and displayed words are 'jumbled' for much of the show.

This is a great video to show seniors before teaching The Canterbury Tales. This video is entertaining and educational.

I really found this dvd fascinating. It covers so much of the average medieval life. If you are fascinated by medieval life and times then please buy this DVD. Mike Loades is an excellent presenter.

I love any documentary that speaks about the daily lives of people in different periods of history, this does exactly that.

Ok, it's presented by Mike Loades which tells you exactly what to expect from this DVD.Mike Loades is a very knowledgable medieval historian specialising in medieval warfare.This means that all of the content on here concerning that angle are spot on.He covers alot of other material, medieval trade and travel for instance, which is also accurate.There are one or two inaccuracies, he skates over traditional herbal remedies for instance and uses a description of the plague doctors out of context (about 300 years later) however, it's a single DVD and the simple point is, you have to pick and choose what you cover in depth and what you don't when dealing with single DVD releases.Personally, I find the DVD covers the parts I'm interested in, medieval travel, trade and warfare extremely well.My only regret is that this wasn't part of a larger series presented by him.

There may have been a few inaccurate facts but, this was a great way to learn about the Medieval world. All the chapters were of interest to me and did not mention any religion. (Really hate the bulls*** that the church imposed on others back then).

Great documentary ! I thought I knew a lot about medieval times but I was wrong... I learned that the people of that time were not as backwards as I initially thought. And the historian who teaches us about medieval time is very passionate about what he is teaching us and it shows! I love how he fully emerced himself completely in the subject of living in those times! He was so in to it that he really got my attention. I felt like I was there white him! I will definitely try and find more documentary material that he is a part of. If all you want is a documentary about medieval war and knights and the such you might be a little bit disappointed because it is not the only subject of this dvd but if you want to learn about how the ate, they constructed castles, hunted and farmed etc... This is the documentary for you! At the very least it will get you interested enough to want to learned more about this topic. Great fun for any lover of history!
