The Course of Love

When I picked up this book, it wasnt about how to enjoy but how it would teach me. The beginning was good but somewhere in the middle I almost gave up because I couldn't relate anymore.. Along the way, I had the thought of… Do I truly want to fall in love and be in a relationship, or am I genuinely content staying single? This isn't a romantic book in the way most people would expect instead it talks about the reality of loving another human being. Falling in love is easy, or maybe it comes naturally but its staying in love is the difficult part. Though we are all vulnerable!… We carry our own wounds, fears, flaws, and expectations into every relationship. Sometimes we blame our partners for what they never understood because we never truly expressed it ourselves. The greatest failure of many relationships isn't the absence of love, it's miscommunication, assumptions, and the inability to honestly say what we're feeling… More than anything, this book taught me.. “The partner truly best suited us is not the one miraculously happens to share every taste but the one who can negotiate differences in test with intelligence and good grace”… Love is about accepting another person's differences while recognizing our own imperfections. Overall this book offers so much to reflect on about how we perceive love, how we give it, and how we hope to receive it. Whether you're single, in a relationship, or married… I think there's something meaningful to take away from this book.

This book tickled my Humanities brain more than the love scenes (blushing), and it is a book that I hope to replicate someday, with my slant, of course. The Course of Love is an elegant philosophical romance, yet it's grounded and gritty in its honest portrayal of love, lust, marriage, and the complex need for another human body or essence in our lives. One other review said it's a sensory experience—and I agree that we feel the texture, urges, and struggles in words that pull you into the arc of love that lasts—or tries to last—beyond one night.

I’m really liking it. If you liked the school of life an emotional education you will like this one.

Excellent like all his books but perhaps a touch pessimistic or too all knowing in spite of the wonderful insights.
