Are the russell stover mints at all similar to fannie may’s mint meltaways?

Yes they are similar.  The difference is that the Russel Stover has a thicker chocolate shell and the mint flavor is more subtle.  My favorite is Philadelphia Candies meltaway chocolate mint truffles, but they are kind of expensive- twice the price as these  which makes them kind of a ripoff.

Why can you buy this exact same product direct from Russell Stover's website for two-thirds less than here?

Shipping costs BEGIN at $9.99 on the Russell Stover's site, so unless you are buying in bulk you are not going to get these for two-thirds less. This box of the french chocolate mints is 10 oz. There is a 10-oz. size in their website but in a different, vertical and clear box, for a third the price, but then you have the shipping. If you order two boxes, however, plus pay the $9.99 for the standard shipping -- (you can pay for faster if you like) -- then yes, you will be getting the same wonderful chocolates for HALF the price you would pay Amazon.
