How long do they last?

At LEAST an hour to an hour and a half! colors are very vivid, I buy these constantly to make sure I always have them on hand....only downside is that you can't cook over campfire after using the packets

Is it safe to roast marshmallows after the color burn off?

We did our roasting before due to chemicals in packets and we have had colors reappear after we thought they were done.

How long before you can cook over it?

The package instructions states do not cook over it. The colors last for a very long time so I would cook first then put the color packs in. They are beautiful, best I've used so far.

Can u use it on a propane fire pit

Other very similar brands that use these same color-changing chemicals specify use with "wood burning" fireplaces and pits only.
