Excellent, affordable high-potency Vitamin D, very important for us who hardly get any sunshine.

I’ve been taking Doctor’s Best 5,000 IU Vitamin D3 for a while now, and it’s one of the easiest supplements to work into my routine. The capsules are very small, smooth, and easy to swallow — no gritty texture or lingering taste. I like that it’s made with extra virgin olive oil, since D3 is fat-soluble and this may help with absorption without needing to plan it around a heavy meal. Vitamin D3, when taken as recommended by a healthcare provider, can support bone health, help maintain healthy teeth, aid immune function, and contribute to overall well-being — especially if you’re not getting enough from sunlight or diet alone. The 360-count bottle is a real convenience — I don’t have to think about restocking for nearly a year, and the cost per capsule works out to be very reasonable. I haven’t noticed any stomach upset, aftertaste, or other side effects, and I appreciate the simplicity of the formula without unnecessary fillers. A couple of things I personally keep in mind: 5,000 IU is a high dose, so I take it under my doctor’s guidance and get my levels checked to make sure they stay in a healthy range. I store the bottle in a cool, dry spot away from sunlight, because I know softgels can sometimes stick together if exposed to heat. For me, taking it with food feels like the best way to support absorption and avoid any chance of mild GI discomfort. Bottom line: This is a simple, well-formulated, high-strength D3 that’s easy to take and lasts a long time. As long as you’re mindful of the dosage and store it properly, it’s a great value and a reliable way to keep your vitamin D where it should be.

The size of the softgels from the 5000IU (125mcg) from Amazon are no different from the 1000IU (25mcg) size of my locally bought from my pharmacy store. if the IUs are already different, why there is no change in their sizes? I felt cheated. Seller please explain. if not , I would want to ask partial refund as there is a difference in IU on the either package but both softgels are the same sizes (see photo).

First some notes from my practice: Vitamin D has emerged over the last 10 years as the new wonder supplement (whereas Vit E has fallen from grace). Vit D demonstrates evidence based reduction in fracture risk, reduced fall risk (due to increased muscle stability, a landmark JAMA article), aids in muscle contractility, promotes proper wound healing, and associated with decreased depression and improved cognitive function (these last two are currently a correlatory finding only). The old 400iu (international unit) daily recommendation has been increased to 800-100iu. This amount is nearly impossible to obtain via photochemistry alone unless you get multiple hours of equator-grade sun exposure daily. Even our sun-drenched Iraqi vets are deficient because of the comprehensive clothing/ body armor. Product Review: Pros: This specific brand (Doctor's best) has the greatest bang for your buck. Taking one 5000iu cholecalciferol (D3 version) capsule every 2-3 days is more than sufficient. Capsules are very small, easy to swallow. No taste or odor. 360 capsules are plenty for 2 years of supplementation. Note other brand's prices, but beware concentration, i.e.- international units per capsule. In this case, the Amazon calculated price per tablet/ capsule is otherwise useless information. Ignore it. Cons: none Just don't take a capsule everyday, as this is technically an overdose (>4000iu daily) and can lead to long term issues including electrolyte and hormonal imbalances. Excess is stored in adipose (as are fat solubles A, D, E & K) but toxicity is quite rare. Overall: a great buy, on the order of 1/5th to 1/6th the price of your chain drugstore "sale" price for weaker 400iu capsules. Take this 5000iu capsule once every 2-3 days. Note on testing for deficiency: Serum testing will usually be low (should be > 20-30mg/dl). Recent evidence promotes testing in those sickly or > 65 only as they're likely to super-deficient and require higher short term supplementation (probably 50,000 iu D2 ergoalciferol semi-weekly) For those healthy younger individuals, testing is not needed and will not change treatment. Recommendation is to supplement everyone.

I think these work! Have your Vit D check soon. Low Vitamin D can cause a whole host of symptoms. Personally, my body pain is close to non-existent when my vitamin D level stays over 55! It also helps a LOT this time of year with seasonal depression. It really does. Try a supplement like this without soy or fillers. You will thank me. 5000 iu is a maintenance dose for my size. Definitely take a bit more & watch Dr Berg on Vit D if your level is under 50. Also, Magnesium is an amazing co-factor for worth supplementing!
