Product Description Hosted by Morgan Freeman, Through the Wormhole will explore the deepest mysteries of existence - the questions that have puzzled mankind for eternity (Who-or what-am I? Are we alone? How did this begin? What happened before that?). This series will bring together the brightest minds and best ideas from the very edges of Science--Astrophysics, Astrobiology, Quantum Mechanics, String Theory, and more - to reveal the extraordinary truth of our Universe. desertcart.com There are a lot of questions asked (and answered, sometimes surprisingly so) in the course of the eight episodes that make up the first season of Through the Wormhole, a science documentary hosted by actor Morgan Freeman. Not just any questions--big questions, cosmic questions, the kind that humans have been asking since the dawn of time. For instance: Can science somehow prove the existence of the Creator? (Could be. One scientist suggests that what people claim are visions of and visitations from God are in fact the result of stimulation of the brain's right temporal lobe, and he invented a "God helmet" to prove it.) Is time travel possible? (Sure. All we have to do is figure out how to make a machine that goes as fast as the speed of light.) What happened before the Big Bang, when the universe was created? (That one's a little tough to explain in a sentence or two.) Are we truly alone, or is there other life somewhere out there? (Many among the astrobiologists who spend a lot of time studying such things are convinced that the universe--or universes, as there may be many more than one--is so incomprehensibly vast that there must be.) These and other topics make for fascinating viewing. To be sure, those who aren't especially scientifically or mathematically inclined may find some of it to be tough sledding; explanations of how gravity might combine with electromagnetism and the so-called weak and strong forces to form a single, unifying force, how "quantum nonlocality" (in which particles are instantly teleported across vast distances) works, or what "retro-causality" means are complex, to say the least. But while the approach is serious and very detailed, it's also entertaining, with lots of visual interest (by way of animation, film clips, visual effects, and such) and often rather amusing (scientists rendered to look like aliens, a fellow who uses a glass of red wine to illustrate his point), and Freeman makes an excellent guide. And with the second season of the series having already aired, fans already have a lot more to look forward to. --Sam Graham Review: Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman - Not having cable, I didn't know about this series, so I bought it based on my sister's recommendation. After watching the series, an odd thing happened. I found a magazine: "Time 100 New Scientific Discoveries" which might as well have been called a scientific up-date for Through the Wormhole! So many of the episodes from the series were not only validated by the magazine, but proved to be stepping stones to even greater developments. That, to me, says that Through the Wormhole is "cutting edge" science and well worth the watching. In other words, you can trust the sources as being reliable and informed - not just theory and conjecture. Yes, I found the camera work annoying also, but it's still worth the watching for the insights that they present. Their take on Dark Matter, alone, was worth the price of admission. For those with a scientific mind-bend, this needs to be in your library. For those of you who can't understand scientific stuff - this is for you also - it's presented so you can get it! Review: BEST. SHOW. EVER. - Cutting edge quantum physics, neurology, and spirituality all balance perfectly in Through the Wormhole to solve, and introduce, some of the most fascinating and/or troubling questions about the universe, humanity, and reality itself. A must watch for science-lovers, phsycists, spiritualists, and truth-seekers. Expertly narrated by Morgan Freeman, the production value of this show is top-notch, leading the viewers through a journey exploring the deepest corners of reality in vivid detail, explained in terms simple enough for the layperson to understand, but thorough enough for intellectuals to learn from.

On the top of my favorites! I whatch it over and over.
Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman series I and II Mr. Freeman provides an excellent narration at times entertaining makes it so easy to captivate your attention. I can listen to it even when not watching. I can run the tape in my mind and know exactly where in the tape he is. Every time I listen or watch it I understand the one thing I did not catch prior. The questions raised at times philosophical others factual, make one realize the efforts and persistence of the human mind to understand creation and our relationship to GOD Who is all that is created. Our fascination with the riddles of science and our attempts to reach just a little deeper, a little further, maybe one more equation and soon we will be meeting her/him/it. This delightful documentary is thought provoking and one the best I have seen.

Great Show
I had not watched the first season of this show, but caught a couple of the new season so I wanted to go back and get the first one. To start with, Morgan Freeman is a great host of the show. I have always liked him and his voice and personality match the show perfectly and makes it easy to listen to. The show itself addresses various issues that many people think about from time-to-time and often crosses into the areas where science fiction and science fact meet, such as whether there are aliens from outer space. The various experts on the subject matter are engaging and work well to try to present the material in a manner that is easy for a layman to follow, but you do not feel that they are talking down to you. Instead you feel they are making an effort to bring difficult concepts across in an easy manner. Some of the episodes also work well for older children, especially if they are curious about science. One thing to note is you may want to take a look at the episodes. For example, like the concept of life after death (second season, not this DVD) or that aliens may be things that may not be appropriate depending on the particular child - not that they are scary, but you may want to give a quick run through the various episodes to make sure it works for you children if you are watching with them.

Amazing Show but Poor Quality DVD
The show itself is amazing and thought provoking but as a DVD, it's poor in quality. The Subtitles are automatically set on so every time you turn the show on you have to be sure to set the subtitles off. Also there are no special features and the DVD menu itself looks like something I can whip up on roxio in two seconds. However, I still love the show and can easily watch the episodes multiple times.

A classic in the making...
Though the Wormhole is a really interesting series. Each episode keeps you entertained as well as informed. I'd rate this series up there with Cosmos by Carl Sagan (the original series, not the new one) as one of the top science shows of all time. Well documented with lots of good animation to keep one entertained/interested. Even some of the subjects you thought were obvious/boring (might have even skipped over) are worth watching as they present the subject matter very well. Just an overall great series in general.

This is an important show
I continue to be impressed with each and every episode of M. Freeman's Through The Wormhole. Like any good science teacher, this show has a way of simplifying complex concepts and communicating them in ways that most everyone can understand. This show tackles life's greatest mysteries and deftly walks the line between educational and entertaining. I would recommend this to people of all ages, as it gets one thinking about issues, problems, and topics far greater than the dealings of everyday life, and draws attention to some of humanity's greatest scientific discoveries. Do yourself a favor and watch.

...About 10 years ago (I think), I watched the BBC documentary series SPACE, presented by Sam Neill. I really enjoyed how the different Subjects: Star Stuff, Staying Alive, Black Holes, Are we Alone?, New Worlds, & Boldly Go, were all explained using a combination, not just of the facts, & CGI, but also Sam Neill's wonderful (& easy to understand) presentation. Since then I've been on the lookout for similar pieces of work. In the recent past I've watched Wonders Of The Solar System, & the 1st series of The History Channels Universe. While these two documentaries are good in their own right, neither of them really captured my attention, & imagination, like SPACE. Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman does this 100%.

This is a massive scientific documentary exploration, for amazingly little money. Well worth it. Morgan Freeman narrates/hosts, but the producers do not dwell upon his participation, milking it as perhaps one would think they might. Instead, they utilize all their time doing what they ought to do: discussing very serious scientific principles and concepts with academic experts. After viewing the entire series, one may develop a 'layman thinking headache'. Such aches are welcome. Also, one will certainly have a yearning for more; perhaps the producers will indulge us further as years go by, returning to these subjects with updated information/discoveries. One hopes so (!). Excellent.
