Product description Review: Always the best hay - 11 boxes (and counting). Here's why we (Bonita and I) love it... - 1. The farmer is very responsive. If you have a question or a problem, google Viking Farmer or go directly to the website (vikingfarmer.com) and send him an email. His response time is pretty impressive (as fast as 17 minutes!) and, understandably, a bit slower during planting/harvest but still excellent. I ask a lot of questions and he has answered them all, with kindness. He cares about the animals and does right by his customers. 2. This is a small, family farm so there is more care and control over the crops and the land. And, the farmer has a pet bun! 3. He quarantines his hay for RHDV2. Mmmhmm, pretty awesome. I'm so thankful my rabbit is obsessed with his 2nd cut Timothy. She's vaccinated but many aren't and I appreciate that he goes to such extra effort, especially as a small farm, to protect them. 4. The hay is consistent box to box and my rabbit is wild for it every time. 5. The quality is excellent. Every opened box looks green and smells fresh. I've never found a bug or anything like that. Just now, I opened a new box to photograph for whoever is interested and did not change anything - what you see is what you get (on Nov 30 2021). 6. After researching the farm & their certifications, and emailing with the farmer, I feel like a good bun mom feeding this hay (what a relief). Who knew that an unplanned bun I found in my yard could be the source of so much joy, stress and $$$, lol! 7. Every bun has their own preferences and that is ok. Who knows how your pet will like this hay so I encourage first time users to give it a try. My girl ate Standlee until she didn't. So we tried every brand and type we could get our hands on (all the regulars and a bunch of obscure ones, too) - Oxbow, Small Pet Select, Rabbit Hole, Kaytee, Tractor Supply stuff, Blue Mountain, different boxes of Standlee, the list goes on and on (like 20 different brands and types). I would open a new box or bag and hold out the greenest, best looking piece I could find. She either took it in her mouth and flung it aside or wouldn't even touch it, thumped and hopped away. We made a lot of donations to local rabbit/pet rescues! I got our first box of VF (totally desperate) and she pushed me out of the way (feisty creature) when I was opening it, shoved her head in and started chomping away, massive wads going into her little mouth. 8. She's healthy, sassy and her poops look great! I hope it works for you and you love it as much as we do! Review: Yummy Hay for Guinea Pigs - This is lovely hay! It's clean (no dust) with some chaff. There were a decent amount of hay heads in the box. The guinea pigs really love this hay and zoomies entailed every time I added to the hay bin. The hay is a nice dark green with some brown or gold stems. I did find a couple weeds in my box, a sprig of clover and some plantain leaves, both of which are edible for piggies and did not concern me. There were zero "sticker" weeds or dirt clumps which was fantastic. The grass was as whole as possible so while there were some patches of smaller pieces, most of the box was whole grass strands. I have seen ALL the hays and this is by far the nicest I've found! LUXURY HAY. The price at the time of this review ($30 ish) is a good price for such nice hay in a 5lb case and in line with competitive brands which sell similar style of hay quality.

Half the box is brown
Viking Farmer make fantastic alfafa hay, but their timothy hay is disappointing. Half the box is brown and it is not cost effective to send back. My rabbit won't eat it.

Not the same as previous seasons
We always loved Viking farmer hay second and third cut, it was definitely different from any other hay companies and it was simply divine for my babies. This seasons harvest is completely different texture and strands are hard and thin and they donโt eat it. Please bring back your signature hay.

Quality hay, intelligent box, rabbit fav for picky eater
Pet Netherland Dwarfrabbit, 1.25 years old This is the only Timothy hay he actually eats, tried multiple brands. Box has brilliant little cutouts to hold it closed after opening = sooo smart. 2nd cut Timothy hay from viking farmer is his jam, he loves it (not the browner ones). It was very difficult to find a hay he liked when transitioning to adulthood and now we have one we KNOW he will eat. Rabbit really didnt like Timothy hays from pet shop, fleet farm, even a different but similar company, they are too woody for his taste. Lot a rabbit owners don't have picky eaters, well we do, so this worked. Worth a try if youre struggling to find a good fit for a picky eater!

Fresh not Guaranteed. Mold potentially
Honestly my rabbits love this hay. They go crazy for it and I love seeing them happy even though this hay is on the expensive side, but they love it, but lately everytime I order this hay it seems less fresh everytime. And this time there was a good chunk of the box that was a majority brown and some looked like it had been in water and dried together in pieces and white specks. I assume this was due to rain but the hay always comes double boxed. It could possibly be mold. Anyway I was disappointed in this hay and transitioning bunnies to a different hay is super hard and if they go on a small hunger strike is super dangerous! Not sure if I would recommend

Best Quality I've Seen in Awhile
I've tried many different brands over the years and they all seemed to have gone down in quality. Farmer Dave's wasn't good the last time I had it. Rabbit Hole said it was second cutting, but my guinea pigs didn't eat most of it since it had really thick and hard stalks for the most part. Before that I tried Sweet Meadow Farm and half of that was completely dried out and they wouldn't eat it. Viking Farmer hay has been great! The pigs eat up all of it! I don't feel like I'm wasting hay and it's good quality for everyone. It may not be important, but the Viking Farmer is cute too! I will definitely order from them again.

Bunny's absolute favorite hay!
I've tried a lot of different hay brands -- Small Pet Select, Oxbow, High Desert, BM Hay Company, Rabbit Hole Hay, etc. The Viking Farmer hay is by far the best. The quality is always consistent, with very green strands and little dust. I have never had a bad batch and have probably ordered about a dozen times across the whole Viking Farmer line. My rabbit's favorite is this second cut hay -- she absolutely loves it. I cannot recommend it enough. I only wish they sold the timothy in 10 lb boxes, since I end up ordering the 5 lb box about once or twice a month.
