Can I use different blades with this razor or do I have to stick with Rockwell's own?

It will work with any standard double edge blade. Which one is the best really depends on which one is the best for you, depending on contour of your face, coarseness of facial hair, sensitive of skin, etc. I do like this razor and the ability to choose the aggressiveness of the angle (I use the #3) but the Rockwell blades were not great for me. I use the Astra Platinum, thin and dirt cheap, so new blade every shave.

will the screw from the top plate survive a drop?

From how high? Unto what surface? At what angle? By itself or as an assembled razor? Simple rule: don’t drop a metal de razor. Even if it doesn’t break, the alignment could be knocked out of whack. That said, EXCEPT for the connection of the threaded rod to the top, this is one solid razor.

Is thos better than the leaf tazor? Om on the fence betweem these two sub $100.00 razors?

The 6S is such a good razor. Easy to use and most importantly easy to rinse out the trapped hair whilst you are shaving, unlike the Viking.
