where is the best place to put this?

Behind you. I put mine on the ceiling behind me aiming slightly down with the infrared LEDs facing towards the same direction in which I will be facing.

You simply plug it in and leave it plugged in and it's always on or when it detects darkness as soon as you turn the lights out the infrareds will illuminate and you won't actually see anything until you put the headset on.. with the naked eye it looks like some dim red bulbs once you throw the headset on and look towards the device it looks like you're staring spotlight from a freight train coming at you. it's best to aim the infrareds not at you but towards the direction in which you're going to be facing when using the headset. so if you're going to be using the VR In your living room facing your television for instance you will want to place the infrareds behind you also facing the television so you can illuminate that area.. Good for games that move 360?

It illuminates the entire room depending on the room size and position, definitely works for 360.

Anybody find the wavelength of this uv light? 345nm? 365nm? 395nm? probably 405nm. anybody counting? mfger? anybody listening?

I don't know the exact wavelength, but you are looking on the wrong end of the spectrum. This light is an IR illuminator that is somewhere near 740nm.
