The dovetail will all interlock so take 2 sides and a front (or back), making sure handles are all with curved side down, push the interlocking pieces together with one side and end piece, then the other. Repeat the same with the opposing end piece and then use nails to secure every other peg or so, to keep together. Then, for frames, take long widest piece, fit the shorter side pieces over each end, fit a screen panel in the groove and then take slender long piece and clamp down on opposite end of side pieces until you create each framed screen. Nail with smaller nails on ends to keep secured. Once box is together and frames are ready you can see the track you drop the wider piece of frame into, much like a hanging file folder, and you're good to go.

does this come with everything you need, minus the bees?

It comes with a complete hive. You would need protective gear, tools (smoker, hive tool, etc), pest management stuff, a feeder and feed in addition to the bees.

What wood are the beehive made from? Is this kit enough for a new beekeeper?

Cedar wood. Yes,It's a complete beekeeping kit. It's enough for newbies. You can use it after assembling. This beehive include 2 bee boxes, metal top cover ,queen excluder and solid bottom board.

How do you extract the honey

in a spinner or you can uncapp the wax and let it drain in a nylon honey filter if you dont have a spinner
