Persuasion: Theory and Research, Third Edition is a comprehensive overview of social-scientific theory and research on persuasion. Written in a clear and accessible style that assumes no special technical background in research methods, the Third Edition has been thoroughly revised to reflect developments in persuasion studies. New discussions of subjects such as reactance and the use of narratives as vehicles for persuasion, revised treatments of the theories of reasoned action and planned behavior, and two new chapters on social judgment theory and stage models provide your students with the most current work on persuasion in a clear, straightforward manner. In this edition, author Daniel J. OโฒKeefe has given special attention to the importance of adapting (tailoring) messages to audiences to maximize persuasiveness. Each chapter has a set of review questions to guide students through the chapterโs material and quickly master the concepts being introduced. Review: came in good condition! - i needed this for one of my master's communication classes. the book came pretty quickly which was a major plus. it was also in good condition with very minimal wear. no missing pages or tears. kudos to desertcart for inspecting before listing it for sale. as for the content, it's ideal for doing research papers. it give you many tips and tricks to gather information for your essay. overall, great buy! Review: Economical but clear language - I'm loving this little book. A bit dry, but concise. Simpler examples would help, but overall is an excellent reference and easy to apply for everyday attempts on creating persuasive messages. The chapter on ELM was very good! Never did I see theory explained so clearly before!

You need a PhD to follow this writing
Awful textbook. This is written by a clear expert, but the author has no concept of writing for an audience of people who are not comfortable or familiar with the subject. Iโm a straight A student and I typically excel at writing and language, but this was some of the most difficult reading Iโve ever had to do for a class. It was absolutely brutal. Textbooks used in undergrad classes should be written so that the average student has a clue as to whatโs being discussed. I bought the digital version, but if I had a hard copy Iโd burn it. Iโve never said that about a book before. This was my first B since going back to school. 12 classes so far and theyโre all Aโs except the class that used this awful book.

I can't decide if the author is highly intelligent, wants me to think he is highly intelligent ...
I had to have this for class. It is crazy wordy. I can't decide if the author is highly intelligent, wants me to think he is highly intelligent or wants me to believe the material is incredibly complicated. One third of the book is reference citations. (literally). It is a book about research but if you are going to include every reference at the end then there is no need to add them in the text with parenthesis; which makes it very hard to follow.

Dense
Required reading for MSC program. Ridiculously dense. So many in-text citations and afterthoughts that it disrupts the flow. Author is unnecessarily wordy and almost seems like it was written for self-gratification, not actually for students to retain knowledge of the topic. You don't need to make learning difficult. Being able to communicate the message so that it is understood is the goal of education, man.

Even topics I already know about like cognitive dissonance are hard to read through
God this book is dry. Reading it for class is just a pain to get though. Even topics I already know about like cognitive dissonance are hard to read through. Not because it doesn't make sense, but O'Keefe just has this way of using big words and filling every sentence with interjections and it just doesn't need to be this difficult. These topics are fun, but they don't read that way. He also ends most chapters by saying (basically) that we really don't know anything about the topic he just told us about because research shows it not to be true or hasn't been conducted or the terms aren't defined well or consistently and it leaves me wondering why I am bothering to learn it in the first place.
