If you read the product description it says that it easily adapts to sloan products. Whether it will fit sloan royale, I am not sure

What is the black part sticking out the top?

The picture is shown vertically rather than the normal way you would see it, which is horizontally. If for some reason the auto-flush does not work, you can press on that black plastic piece to manually flush. These things are great. Takes less than 10 minutes to install replacing the flush handle, and the batteries last at least 4 years before they have to be (easily) replaced.
