Is any intallation required?

Yes, but the installation won't be complexed. All you need you need to do is to place drain tray, cup holder and cutlery box on the right place, and we are all set. Where does the cutlery water drain into?

There is an outlet at the bottom of the cutlery box, so the cutlery water will directly flow into the drain tray and finally drain into the sink. Please check the video for more product details.

Does this rack work on both sides of the sink?

Yes it does.  The only thing on it that's stationary is the glass and cup holder.  I have mine on the right side of the counter to drain in the sink.  You can turn it around for the right side and put the wine holder to the back which I also use for cups and the cutting board holder to the front, which I love.  Holds thin baking pans too.  The only difference is the Kitsure decal won't be showing.  You do need a big drying mat underneath this for the things placed in the wine rack and cutting board holder as they hang outside the dish rack and they do slide around.  They should have made them with snap on clips to hold them in place.  The silverware holder drainer that fits into the main rack drainer does not stay up well.  I have plans of gluing it on.  Needs some tweeking, but their on the right track and it's the best looking one I've owned for the money!
