SAMSON Q9U XLR/USB Dynamic Broadcast Microphone

To put it simply, this might be the best microphone under 250 dollars. I will begin with the features, this mic offers USB and XLR connection along with zero-latency auto monitoring and audio passthrough from your computer. It has has a physical mute switch and two switches on the back to alter the sound. One switch is a mid presence boost and the other is a low cut filter. Next I want to talk about the build quality, this microphone feels excellent and is made of very high quality materials, everything on this mic is either metal or very high quality plastic. Finally the sound produced by this microphone is very very good, I personally use this microphone over USB and have the mid presence boost switch engaged. This microphone has a very warm and deep sound profile that sets it apart from other dynamic microphones, I personally love how this microphone sounds and I would easily choose this over something like the shure mv7 or even the sm7b. I have found that if you want the microphone to sound more like other "podcast" microphones you should enable the low cut filter and mid presence boost, I highly recommend you view the video created by Podcastage in which he reviewed this microphone and compared it to several other microphone in the same category.

I am very happy with this Mic. I had it for 2 years, and now more than ever use it as my daily driver for making my content creation. Either Live social media, podcasting, gaming its my main piece of equipment. The usb/xlr is soo useful. I used both and of course xlr sounds great but the usbc feature is an amazing choice if your just starring out with very little audio production gear. Beautiful sounding audio quality and great value for the money.

I absolutely love this microphone. It replaces my old condenser mike. It is heavy, sturdy, and easily transportable. Even a relative newbie like me can use it. It is not very expensive, but it does the job. It's easy to use and setup. This is a great mike.

Similar to other Samson microphone products, this one meets the standard for build quality. It's heavy, feels strong in the hand, and has (in my opinion) sound quality rivaling competitors charging twice the price. I won't go over the obvious features, but I will say the following: - It does not come with a stand. Plan accordingly. - It does not come with any mounting adapters. - It does not come with an XLR cable. - It does come with both a USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cable. They are about 6 ft. USB 2.0 standard for speed I believe. - It is powered by the USB bus (When not using XLR). If you are having trouble, use a powered USB hub. - It does come with a pop filter. - Mute button is clicked IN for MUTE, OUT for LIVE. Other thoughts.... In response to another review complaining about their USB cable breaking off and leaving them with a "useless microphone"... the cables are basic and removable, they're not permanently wired to the mic. Just go buy another cable for $5, why trash the mic with a 1-star review? I've also seen reviews online complaining that the wishbone mount isn't able to be tightened where it meets the microphone housing. The outer plastic on each side is just a cover, you can pop it off to get to the hold-down mechanism (beware of warranty voiding if you tinker too much however, if it's not on the user guide it wasn't meant to be user-serviceable). Depending on your setup and cable organization OCD levels, you might want to get a better USB-C cable that has a 90-degree connector on it for ease of cable routing. Otherwise the cable will protrude straight back an additional 1-2 inches and bending that cable too tightly will put strain on the USB-C connection. In Windows 11, the default mic volume for input was not defaulted to 100%. You might need to tweak that per the user manual to a level that works for you. Mine is at 78%.

I've had my fair share of cheap mics, and a couple "cheap" mics; ranging from cheap gaming headsets to a Blue Yeti (the best of the worst). This mic slaps them up and down the schoolyard. It's less than $200, so it's definitely still in the budget range. But for what you pay, this thing kicks ass. It comes with a sturdy, well-constructed device, a solid pop filter, and a USB-C cable. Right off the bat, the fact that you can pick either XLR or USB-C as your connection method is awesome. I don't have to take my interface with me if I want to go mobile! However, it *is* pretty hefty, and my mic arm struggles to keep it up. It manages, but it's crying. However, I have it hooked up to my Scarlett 2i2 v3, and they're a match made in heaven. The Scarlett gives me the basic control I need over the mic, and the gain knob allows me to make up for how quiet the mic's output is. The mic itself has a couple basic tuning options on the rear, but it's better off being tweaked in software, especially for your gain. Even with an interface that can boost output, anyone paying for this mic should already know to tweak in software anyway (whether it's in a DAW, video editing, or streaming live). I think it's a solid value for the price, and after just a few weeks with it, everyone I usually talk to online, be it for gaming or my podcast, have noticed a considerable leap in the quality of my voice online since it arrived. I don't think I'll need another mic for a good, long while.

I purchased this late last year and found it awesome. USB-C, great quality without an interface, looks great, built like a tank. I replaced a Blue yeti which picked up too much sound, making this perfect. Four months later, I noticed many people complaining I sounded too quiet. I checked my sound settings and found nothing had changed. The only way I could hear myself was to raise the gain in Windows to 100%. This makes me audible, but with a loud hiss and static in the background. I tried a separate desktop, USB port, and new USB-C cable, but the issue continued. I did the logical thing and contacted Samson. You pay return shipping, but to their credit at first, they quickly shipped me a new one after I sent my old microphone in. I plug my new microphone after the warranty process and find it works just as great as my original used to. Problem resolved, right? Nope. A month later, my new microphone does the same thing. It was a brand new replacement going by the box, but the behavior is the same. My old Blue Yeti is 8 years old and still works flawlessly. I had to use it while I waited for my warranty swap. I contacted Samson again over 3 times during a span of two weeks, and they refuse to respond to me. That's $99 down the drain plus return shipping fees originally for a microphone that hasn't lasted 6 months combined. The radio silence on my 2nd warranty claim has drained any confidence I had in the company. I recommend you stay away from Samson, especially this microphone, and look elsewhere.

This mic is very agile and can save you tons of money because of USB. So if you want to have more professional setup you can spend money on audio interface, maybe preamp, xlr cables etc, but if you're not ready for this yet, USB allows you to just plug and play with it. Included items are great, you have usb-c and usb-a cables, pop filter. Physical mute button on the mic is very great feature, and it has two frequencies tune switches on it; it works both with USB and XLR connection. Frequencies are tuned for speech, the sound not so crisp for vocals, but really good for talking. The are only two minor cons: 1. Internal USB preamp is slightly noisier than what you can get from standalone audio interfaces like focusright, native instruments or behringer or more expensive options. It is fixable with noise reduction plugins for recording. When talking in meetings it is impossible to notice when you talk, and many meetings software has built-in noise reduction... 2. Mic is pretty good at capturing sound in front of it, and not catching on sides and back side, however, it easily catches vibrations or bumps, probably because of full metal construction and some internals... so if you have a table stand or table mic arm stand and if you hit the table or touch the arm or pressing keyboard buttons too loud - the mic will catch it. To eliminate it you can use floor stand or be more careful with movements.

I LOVE this mic! In my opinion it’s better than the SM7B or whatever that mic is, that everybody has. I was tryna to buy that one, but I had to do my research to see if it was worth it. I’m glad I came across and researched this one! Sometimes high prices doesn’t mean something is better than the other. This one is just as expensive as well. It changed the dynamics of my voice really well! My voice can be a lil high pitched, and I didn’t like it for streaming, but this one adds natural depth to your voice. It’s optional if your voice is already deep, you can turn off the low end etc. The only BAD thing i have to say about this mic, is it’s heavy… and needs a durable boom arm to carry it! And so that’s perfectly fine! But I do NOT advise mounting it with a powerful boom arm on a glass desk/table. I was about to stream and BOOM! Moving the boom arm, shattered my glass for my desk right before i went LIVE!!!!! I still use it on another glass desk i have, my art desk that has a thicker glass, all i did was add aluminum foil inbetween the clamp, so the glass won’t break when moving. See 2nd photo uploaded. I didn’t want to buy another desk. I had a curve desk, so it was easy to remove the broken section and still have half the desk left. And i added my art desk to make up for the broken section. Easy fix! Buy the MIC it’s a BETTER quality mic! Just make sure you buy a sturdy boom arm, and have a durable desk to mount it! 😉 Dont be like me and mount it on glass desk with boom arm. It’s too heavy for that it will break your desk! Oh and it didn’t need an audio interface or any pre-amp to power it. It’s plug and play. I just went to system preferences to adjust volume on mic. I later on bought a GOXLR Helicon, which I haven’t set up and used yet. And NO it does not require phantom power! Ight this review too long now byeee lol

I bought this microphone mainly to upgrade my previous condenser mic for voice overs and I'm so surprised with the quality as it really suits my voice. For weeks, I've been researching on which microphone to choose and I ended up getting this. It's a bit heavy as it's made with full metal which makes it feel premium. It might not suit everyone's voice, but for me, it's just right.
