You have to pry one side away from the base and then it opens.

Installed and removed plastic tad form battery, red indicator light is on. Where is the "full function test switch"? Unable to test to verify alarm.

Puts the test button, you will get a spoken response on what tone you will hear for fire and a separate one for carbon monoxide. Replace batteries each year at fall time change.
