Review: Stick with it - This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales was one of my favourite stories that I read last year so I was more than excited for her new novel Tonight the Streets Are Ours. And sure I can admit that the absolutely stunning book cover helped somewhat. Tonight the Streets Are Ours is really multi-faceted. There are so many layers that it is hard to break down to tell you about them but I shall try. It is about a girl called Arden who has a troublesome best friend called Lindsay; Arden lives at home with her father and her brother and just over four weeks earlier her mother abandoned them all; Arden has a boyfriend called Chris who she is growing ever the more unsure about and Arden has a secret obsession with a blog called Tonight the Streets Are Ours by a mysterious writer called Peter. So I have managed to tell you about the book without revealing too much which is good. I guess if I had to describe the theme of the book I would say that consistently running through it is the theme of disappointment and having expectations that are too high. Arden likes to believe that people are inherently good and do good things for the people that they care about but when she realises she is giving more than she is receiving she becomes a bit jaded and angry. If I am honest, I found Arden’s naivety somewhat annoying at times and she did put people either too high on a pedestal or equally too low. She never really concentrated on herself but in essence that is what also made her character and linked her to her mother whose life paralleled Arden’s. Tonight the Streets Are Ours is a really good read and one that has more of an impact than you initially feel. This book is definitely worth a read. Funny and sweet. - Few grammer errors on e version but other than that I really enjoyed this story. I liked the characters and would recommended to YA lovers.

3.5 stars
3.5 stars I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This book is a love story, but it's not a straight forward, "I've read it a million times" sort of a love story. The author looks at all sorts of relationships, which is very fresh. The characters in this book, although quite frankly hard to like at times, are incredibly realistic. It was a fantastic read and I'll be coming back to Leila Sales in the future, cudos for beautiful writing I'd definitely recommend this book to readers of all ages

Review from Goodreads 31/8/15
This ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review From Leila Sales, the author of This Song Will Save Your Life, comes a new contemporary young adult novel about love and friendship. Seventeen-year-old Arden, a recklessly loyal girl, discovers a blog, Tonight The Streets Are Ours, and becomes obsessed with the writer’s life. Peter has had experiences that Arden has also had; such as a relative leaving and loving people a lot more than they love you. Arden’s loyalty to her friend Lindsey has occasionally ended up with Arden taking on the punishments she does not deserve. Arden believes she is doing this out of love but is beginning to question why no one else does those types of things for her. After being let down by her boyfriend, Arden and Lindsey go on a road trip to New York in search of this admirable Peter. However, this trip ends up with Arden and Lindsey falling out, and Peter not quite being who the Internet made him out to be. To begin with, Tonight The Streets Are Ours, felt very sketchy. The writing style and themes did not match up. Whereas the characters were teenagers and dealing with age appropriate issues, the actual writing felt as though it was targeted at a much younger audience. The characters were not particularly likable, including Arden who at times appeared to be representing perfection in terms of her personality. It is not until much later in the novel that the pace picks up and the story becomes more exciting. Once Arden meets Peter and begins to realize that reality conflicts with the online Peter, the true message of the book begins to come across. It is difficult to rate this book. Whilst the ending was good, the beginning dragged so much that I almost gave up on reading it. If I felt that way then chances are other readers may do too – readers that may not actually persevere. For this reason, Tonight The Streets Are Ours is not a book I would easily recommend.

Not as I expected.
I think this book deserves 3.5 stars but as that's not an option I will be kind and give it 4. I did enjoy the book, it was good. However I was slightly mislead by the blurb. I was under the impression that the book would focus around a road trip to NYC and that's where the majority of the book would take place. However the main part of the story happened in the characters home town. I feel that the trip to New York was a bit rushed and not enough details. However in doing this you as a reader invest your time in the blog that Arden is reading and you do feel a slight sense of disappointment with the character when the blogger isn't exactly who you picture him to be. All in all I did enjoy the book although I was expecting it to be a little different. If you are contemplating buying it just know that the focus isn't really on the road trip and New York as you are lead to believe by the summery.

Probably the best book I've read in 2016. Absolutely delightful.

This book isn't the typical love story. It takes a moment to make you love it, but then everything becomes surprisingly magic: Through unpredictable and sometimes even funny events, each character discovers himself. I found myself feeling like I knew those people!

I‘m German so I read this book in English to practise and because I had already read „This song will save your life“ by the same author and it was really great. The latter is a much thinner book, but in the aggregate it packs much more excitement in less pages and it is just are more round story. It‘s much easier to identify with its main character Elise and you just enjoy living the story together with her. This is the special and strong side of it, although there are not too many downs for Elise, the moments she just feels great and so does the reader are totally authentic. Looking at „Tonight the streets are ours“, I was a bit disappointed because the book lacks tension especially at the beginning. However, it provides a much deeper message which I think is a cool thing as you don‘t find that too often nowadays. Therefore, the reader is required to think about what is said and if he agrees with the statement that loving somebody doesn‘t mean sacrificing your own life for him. You need to be happy with your own life to be able to love yourself, which is the precondition for being able to love others. Mutual love isn‘t all about responsibility and giving up everything for one another, but it is also about bringing out the best of each other. The way Sales connected this message (which is not the only topic of her book) with the plot and the characters is good, but it is not as catchy as Elise‘s story for example. Still, the language is easy to read so you can go through the book quickly and still take it‘s nice message with you.

The book is a bit pointless. But it was hilarious , enjoying and just good. After reading the book though. You'll realize there is no point in it.
