Is it suitable for 2 years old?

My 2 year old uses it with minimal help, like placing bugs in container sometimes. Works really good for children to watch the bugs that were caught.

Does this have a focusing ring? If not, how clearly focused are objects that are placed in the container? Thanks!

No focusing ring. It is more like a magnifying glass for both eye pieces. The objects seen are usually really clear.

does it hold water? would it work for the beach?

I could hold water, but I’d be very careful about it. The handle is attached to the lid, so if the container held anything too heavy (like lots of water), the tab to keep the lid closed would likely break.
