Good features for the price, with a few issues.
Update 6/28/21: Still going strong, even after my daughter dressed it up as a Minion from Despicable Me Fantastic value! Update: After 10 months, bringing my rating up to 5 stars. A sturdy, solid performer. Although the concerns below are still valid, this meter represents great value for the money. Good features for the price, with a few issues. The good: Sturdy construction, has a good weight to it, unlike some others Both A and C weighting Auto ranging Back lit display Uses AAA batteries rather than expensive 9 volt Yellow color easy to find under low light conditions (on stage or at FOH) The not-so-good: Backlight button not consistant (sometimes turns on light, other times it takes a press or two) Front and back of injection molded casing different shades of yellow Unknown accuracy (all low priced, uncertified meters have this problem.Certified calibrated meters are too expensive for a hobbyist like me ;) No external calibration port Can be used for checking relative levels only. this meter could be off by 3 or 4 dB, who knows? A difference of 3 dB will halve the permissible exposure time: 85 dBA+ 8 hours 88 dBa = 4 hours per NIOSH recomendation/OSHA regs (all uncertified meters could have this problem) On the whole, a solid piece of gear with good features at a nice price. compares favorably with other uncertified meters at 3 times the price. Long term use may be compromised by lack of a calibration port, as accuracy can drift over time. The meter is new, used for one gig so far.I will report back any further pluses and minuses, if any come up.

works well
Easy to use and does take an accurate reading. The instructions are terrible.

Seems to work well
Seems to work well, I don't understand why in a totally quiet area it still shows about 40db. I kinda thought that in a quiet area it would be closer to 0. As for temp and humidity readings, they are within range of other devices I use, so pretty accurate. Backlit feature is really nice, as I needed to take measurements in a dark area. Overall I really like the unit. For the price and quality I would buy again.

Certainly not a sound purchase: Opportunity wasn't calling me
When I purchased the Protmex HT602A SPL Meter Decibel Meter, I had no idea what I was getting into. I initially bought this sound measuring tool to measure the noise from a soundproofing cabinet I built for my computer and to test various other objects and their noise levels. I didn't realize just how limited the actual usage of this product would end up being over time. I thought owning "some testing equipment" for reviewing products like computer fans and sound dampening materials was a great idea. The price point of the Protmex HT602A was fair, considering its functionality and effectiveness. It had a great handfeel, and I was impressed by its performance. I tried to find more devices made by Protmex but discovered they don't really produce many other products besides this sound meter and couple of other things. Even their design resembles lots of many other generic items on Amazon. I realized the device is was essentially a generic product with a generic plastic label. The packaging is plain and unbranded, with only "ENVIRONMENTAL METER" written on the box. Despite its generic nature, I found the price to be reasonable for its purpose, and it was sensitive enough for my limited usage. It was easy to use and maintain. The product's actual application was where it fell short. I kept it around for as long as I could, but I never found a real use for it, contrary to my initial expectations. It just sat unused in its bag, a constant reminder of an impulsive purchase with good intentions. Eventually, I returned the product – not because of any fault in the product itself, but because I couldn't justify spending money on something I didn't foresee using in the future. In my experience, this device was more of a niche product. While it appeared well-built and had a bright, industrial design, it just didn't provide me with the information or had the overall usage I had hoped for. Your mileage may vary with this type of device. I didn't even really get a solid answer if my sound dampening case really made that much of a difference, even with several layers of sound dampening material. For what it's worth, the product was one of the better generic testing devices I have purchased on Amazon. I just wish I had found more uses for it. It is by far one of the most easily readable screens, awesome backlight, top notch build quality, and positive handfeel experience was all positives about the product. If I ever to ever have an immediate need for a decibel meter in the future, I would consider picking this one up again. It was affordable and of good quality. I would recommended it if that really matters to anyone.

Simple and accurate
It’s a fine SPL meter at a very good price.

"Seems" perfect, but...
I THINK it work well, but have no way to assess its accuracy. However, it is very consistent measuring the level from my fridge, A/C compressor, and screeching ex-wife & her lawyer, (although the sound level has frequently gone off the scale😖) It's easy to use, very visible when the screen light is on, and fine. My only nitpick is that the battery cover is held by a small screw; a different method would be better if one only rarely uses it, and removes the battery to prevent leakage. Would buy it again.

Does exactly what you expect.
I had an event where there were specific db restrictions at a very specific spot on the venue's property. Using this db meter, I was able to eliminate any pushback on volume as I knew that I was exactly under the venue's requirements. Thankfully I didn't receive those requests, but I had evidence in hand.

Read this
I used my phone as a sound meter and it was okay not the greatest, then I bought one on amazon, it was little better but not it lacked features. Then I found this and it made a big difference in lining up my audio speakers and dialing in my in ceiling speakers as well as my home theater system. Now everything sounds immersive and even across the room. If you on the fence don't be it will make you smile.

Bought to measure the noise from music at our venue. Gives us confidence that we're not annoying the neighbours. It gives you an idea of the frequency amplitudes and so detect the more annoying base etc.
