Kala KA-TEAK-T Teak Tenor Ukulele

UPDATE: I have had it for over a year and half now. The only issue I've had was a couple of strings breaking. But then, that's just normal wear and tear. I love playing this thing. Recently my wife picked it up and started playing around. She doesn't play guitar or anything, so she's brand knew and she likes it, too.The sound is great. If I'm just sitting in my home office reading online or in a Teams meeting. I turn my video and mic off and play as I listen to the meeting. Really love this thing.I bought this baritone ukulele on a lark. I thought it might be fun.I was looking at the Kala ukuleles and I liked the look of this teak version versus the other Kala B which are a bit plain looking (to me at least).I've had no issues with this after a few months of playing. And I've played it a lot. I play guitar so it was an easy switch because of the tuning.I like the sound of the baritone ukulele and find it a lot more fun to play than I was anticipating.I've not experienced any issues. No buzzing (except a few times when I clearly had bad fretting technique) and I find the finish nice.The tuners aren't high end, but I've found that it holds tune well. I've played for a few hours at a time and it held tune.For the price, this is an amazing instrument.

Sounds beautiful!! Worth the money

Thought I'd try a different low-end MaKala baritone when a student really liked the sound hole decor around this teak laminate uke, and it was in her price range. It cost a little less than the previous 2 excellent for the price mahogany baris I'd purchased as 1st ukes for a couple other students. Immediately liked the looks of the teak bari right out of the box ... the stripey teak in a smooth natural finish was attractive with the etched sound hole decor. Soon as I tuned it up it was buzzy on the G string ... bad buzzy. Send it back kinda buzzy. At which point I noticed this uke also came with a truss rod, which most Kalas do, even tho it isn't mentioned in the specs on the sales page. Should be! Had read all of the reviews for this particular $100 uke and only one said it was buzzy and got sent back, so I took a chance and ordered it and it arrived within the short window I had to get it for the student before she left town. None of the reviews mentioned the truss rod. Most folks new to ukes and interested in this low price range probably don't know about truss rods or what to do with them. I do, so 4 gentle quarter turns counterclockwise (which is quite a few!) -- checking the action after each quarter turn -- seemed to fix the problem. Raised the action of course, but it wasn't awful to play and the sound of the instrument is clear & sweet. Only had it for a day before it left with the student to another state, so not really much time with it to see how the tuners and strings held a tune. Did not feel the need to change the strings, as I often do with some lower end ukes. Have never had to change the strings on a Kala. Told the student she'd have to keep playing and tuning it for quite some time to get the strings settled, a great reason to put some time in on it! -- and maybe do more truss rod adjustments. For the price and looks of it she seemed happy enough to use it to find out if learning to play a baritone uke was a good idea. I might get another one to have here and get ready for another student, but I might just go back to the plainer but issue-free mahogany Makala baritone.

A great soprano ukulele for the price! It plays and sounds really good! I lowered the action slightly, which made it play even better. It looks amazing and the craftsmanship is very good for that price range.

Great for beginners, beautiful craftsmanship

This is a beautiful looking instrument! It's easy to tune, a great value for the money.This is my first Ukulele and I am not disappointed. A very good purchase. I would definitely recommend it to others.

I ordered this as a travel type uke to take back and forth to work, etc. The first arrived in a box only, with no packing materials. Action was high, wouldn’t stay in tune, etc. I sent it back and requested another one.This one came with brand new packaging, but similar issues. The action was high, fret ends sticking out, didn’t stay in tune.I know it’s on the lower end budget wise, but I hoped for a little more for a $75 uke.

Overall this Uke is a great value. There are a few quality issues such as the tuning pegs mentioned in a previous review, there is also fret sprout on the neck, and mine had a very small chip missing on the bottom edge of the top (hardly visible but you can feel it). The finish is great, the tuners work well, the sound is full, and it resonates well. It could use a full setup to address the fret ends and lower the action, but it is completely playable and a solid beginner level instrument balancing budget and playability.

外国からの輸入で少し多めに時間がかかりましたが、販売店さんの丁寧な対応で安心して待ってました。思った通りのチーク材でした。船に使われているチーク材が好きなので大切にします。

I'm a beginner and this seems like a pretty good instrument. There was some string buzz with certain chords, so eventually I ordered new strings and put them on. It is better now. I'm not sure if it came this way or if the strings got damaged somehow because when I first used it, I was so bad at playing that I didn't notice the string buzz.

Could sound a little better, but not bad, Considering the low price! Great for a beginner!
