Each easy-to-implement project includes background information for the teacher, project goals, math skills needed, a student guide with tips and strategies, and reproducible worksheets. Projects are designed to help students meet the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards and Focal Points, and chapters are organized to show how math relates to language, arts, science, etc.--demonstrating the importance of math in all areas of real life. In Part I, Chapter 1 offers an overview of how to incorporate math projects in the classroom. Chapter 2 provides a variety of classroom management suggestions, as well as teaching tips, and Chapter 3 offers ways teachers may evaluate project work. Each chapter also contains several reproducibles that are designed to help students master the procedural skills necessary for effective collaboration while working on projects. Part II, "The Projects," is divided into six separate sections: Section 1. Math and Science Section 2. Math and Social Studies Section 3. Math and Language Section 4. Math and Art and Music Section 5. Math and Fun and Recreation Section 6. Math and Life Skills Review: Great multi-level/age/grade resource - I have third to sixth grade students in my classroom, they are talented, gifted and highly motivated. We use the projects in this book in conjunction with traditional as well as hands-on activities to cover curriculum and standards. The projects in this book are simple and straightforward enough for my younger students to understand and open ended enough to allow the older children the opportunity to go beyond the suggested activity. We have done the projects independently, in partnerships and in small groups. They present their projects to each other when completed. We're currently, doing the math newsletter activity which will become part of a schoolwide newspaper we are creating. The book is designed to link math to other disciplines: science, social studies, language arts, etc. Their final projects are often so thoughtful and well constructed that I include them in our class portfolio. When they complete one project, they beg for the next! Review: Good - The thing I like about this book is that the projects are do-able. They don't require the type of materials that parents would have to scour the town to find. The projects can be completed independently by the students after having gotten a proper introduction and example. They are also relevant. Thanks. I love it when someone else comes up with good ideas I can use.

Practical and usable
This resource makes sense in the teaching and learning of basic facts. The key questions for each fact group can easily be used to assess students understanding of those facts and multiplication in general. Certainly a resource I wished I had used years before now.

Excellent Resource!
The projects in this book broaden students' understanding of math by connecting math to other topics. Each project includes detailed information for teachers such as the goal of the project, skills covered, materials and equipment, development, and wrap up. Projects also include guides for students with key steps, special tips, and background information that help students to complete the projects.

Good teachers already have thought of these ideas
No need to buy this item if you feel you are a "good teacher". The ideas are simplistic, for instance, a math journal...come on now, I think that we don't need a book to tell us about this one.

Good resource!
Iโve been using these both in the classroom and for the distance learning with some modifications. Really awesome book and great projects included. Kids are super excited about several of them!

Not really 'hands on'
I returned this because I really was looking for hands on projects. This has a lot of good stuff, just not what I was looking for. This book has a lot of practical pencil to paper projects.
