Phenyx Pro Dual UHF Tunable Freq Wireless Microphone System PTU-52-1H1B

I bought this setup to support a couple of needs I regularly have. One of thise is in church for a teacher to have a wireless lapel mic so they can rove around in a large room, and have a roving handheld for the class members. It worked great for this application. In one activity that came up on the first Saturday after I got it, it was a larger get together with an MC using the lapen mi and a performer using the handheld. It performed flawlessly. The meeting took place in a gym where it can be hard for people to hear. Having both channels together in a sigle unit worked great to have the unit mix the channels and use the one single input built at the back of the gym. The other purpose I tested in rehearsals, and just got to try out at the State Fair. I play trombone and do some voicals in my band, and in some cases we have a limited number of channels available. Mics for horns are always a challenge. There's only a few good mics available, and they are condenser mics - that's not compatible with most body packs. But I tried putting the lapel mic that came with the PTU52 with a bell clip on mount. It has been working great. I got great sound at the fair. It was clear with a great dynamic range. It didn't introduce any noise or tone variation. I ran it through a monitor me box and have complete monitoring of my sound.

I bought this a couple of years ago as a backup unit and I have to say it has really surprised me. There was one mishap where the transmitter was dropped and the connection was damaged internally. It was easily opened and re-soldered and has been fine ever since. The hand held microphone works very well with very little opportunity for feedback. I am not saying it is an equivalent to the Shure brand but it sounds as good to me. I am glad to have it for a backup unit at our Church.

Both units work fine with good sound. Tell user to hold [on/off button] down 2 seconds to turn off, I can change carrier frequency like popular brands. One really good feature: Turn off the mic and no noise! Just On then Off, no mute to worry about. I can turn up down volume at the base unit. The vol can go up down at lapel but I don't suggest it. (signal to noise issues) Duct tape solves that one. (Mic users like to play) Hint: Keep volume bar lights on the base above 3/4 for best sound downstream signal. In our case handheld is used 1st then teacher uses lapel after.

Like everything I have gotten from Phenyx Pro, this unit arrived well-packaged and includes a 2-channel receiver, handheld dynamic mic, wireless belt pack, clip-on lav mic, headset mic, batteries, a ¼ mix out cable, antennas, and an anti-roll ring for the handheld mic. All of this costs about the same as a single wired Shure SM58, a well-known industry standard. However, this is a budget-friendly wireless system—great for conference rooms, speeches, or non-critical events, but not ideal for musicians or important occasions where audio quality and reliability are crucial (wedding ceremonies, funerals, large events, etc). The build quality is better than expected for the price, though not as robust as higher-end models like the Shure ULXD or Phenyx Pro PTAU-2. The PTU-52 is more affordable but lacks features like true diversity, which improves wireless reliability and range. I tested the PTU-52 against several other mics and systems for comparison. • Phenyx Pro PTU-71 • Phenyx Pro PTAU-2 • Shure QLXD • Shure ULXD • Wired Shure SM58 • Wired SE V7 • Wired Sennheiser e865 The PTU-52 offers an acceptable frequency range, but proper gain structure is essential. Both the receiver and transmitter volume knobs, as well as mixer gain and EQ, need careful adjustment. The handheld mic has more handling noise than the others, so good mic technique is important—moving it around or holding it far from the mouth reduces sound quality and increases noise, even with low-end EQ cuts. Wind and handling noise are also issues for the lapel and especially the headset mic, making them unsuitable for outdoor use or near fans. The handheld sounds decent, though thinner than an SM58, but can be improved with EQ. Proximity effect is strong; moving the mic just a few inches away reduces warmth. The lapel is thinner (as most are) but usable, while the headset is almost unusable due to its thin sound and breath noise. However, the belt pack uses a mini 3-pin XLR, so you can upgrade to a better headset mic if needed. The wireless range is decent with a clear line of sight, but obstacles over 50 feet can cause dropouts. For the price, the PTU-52 is a solid budget choice—sometimes, good enough really is good enough. I give it 4 stars primarily because, for the price, you probably can't find better. But if you pay more, even for other Phenyx Pro systems, you'll get a better system. If you can swing an extra $50 and get the PTU-71. If not, this will do if you keep the things I said above in mind.

Bought this a couple of weeks ago and waited to write a review until we had a show to use it at. Our band uses a lot of rack gear and runs IEM’s. Since we are fully contained, we have a lot of lines on the ground and this was super nice to break away from another long xlr running across stage. We use one of the vocopro iem rigs and I’ve gotten used to that cheaper build quality. This felt like a step up in quality. During our set, I didn’t have any dropouts or technical issues. This operates under a different frequency than our IEM’s so no interference issues. We were on a decently big stage and never had a distance issue when moving around with it. Setup was extremely simple and when it arrived, I knew it was worth the inexpensive asking price. My only con is that I wish it came with rack ears in the box but I’m sure there’s someone out there 3D printing them!

This microphone set easily plugs into the XLR A/V system I have access to. The volume easily adjusts so that the audience hears the presentation well, yet it does not cause feedback. The gain setting (not adjustable - only volume control), picks up sound easily. No need to keep the microphones right up to someone's month.

Plugged right into my receivers mic input and works great. You can play music, and have the ability to speak over the top, which is what we wanted. Great little mic system.

Don’t waste your money on this model! I recently used this set and had a really bad experience. This model is probably piece of junk and would recommend to stay away from it. - The mics cut out randomly even within 10-15 feet of indoor clear line of sight distance with no other wireless systems in atleast half a mile distance. I tried swapping out the mic on the body pack but thinking it’s a broken wire or joint but didn’t help. Also tried multiple frequencies but it continued to create problem. At a point, the guest speaker got frustrated and took off the over the year mic and used the wired mic. I had to replace the system in middle of the program with the older PTU5000 and it worked well as always. I tested again at my home for about 5 mins within my living room and exactly same results. - there is a design flaw in the mic positioning of the over-the-ear mic which Phenyx is not fixing even in newer models. The flexible stem’s spring action turns the mic direction away from the mouth regardless of how well you set it up. You can start your program by setting the right direction but in a matter of mins, the sound will be become muzzled. I also have GTD UHF mics which are 99% similar but their mics do. It have this issue

Very good. I was surprised that the sound quality was so good for the price, and the batteries seem to last a long time.

Muy buenos micros, la única pega es que cuando pulsas una vez el botón de encendido cuando están encendidos se pone en mute, hubiera sido mejor otro sistema que fuera menos dado a "muteados" involuntarios. Por lo demás, buen sonido y buen alcance, el material es bueno para el precio que tiene.

Me encantó su sonido, es de buen peso, también el micrófono de diadema suena bien, lo único que pediría es que incluyera un clip para pedestal que le quede, ya que no entra en los convencionales.
