Q: What holds them together?

There are little knotches you hook onto and then gravity and balance do the rest Nothing a 4 year old could not do. 6 year old really gets into the balance and stacking creatively.

Q: Would these be too complicated for a 2-year-old to enjoy?

Not at all. I had these when I was young and have given them to several of my grand kids for Christmas. Some were 2 or 3 and loved them

Q: Does the design continue to the back of the robots?

No, the back is painted a solid color, matching the front. There is no robot painted on the back.

Q: Does anyone know where these stacking robots are made?

I purchased these a decade ago, and cannot recall. Sorry!
