Does it need a hub or does it connect to the wifi directly?

Hub is only needed for Apple HomeKit. Otherwise it connects to ur router and the MyQ app does the rest

does it work with 5 g network?

If your router has both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. myQ Wi-Fi products only support 2.4 GHz band Wi-Fi and will not connect to 5 GHz band Wi-Fi.

I did not know what was meant by the bar, on mine it was nine feet long. However what they seem to be referring to is the maximum opening, So a 7 foot bar is a 7 foot max opening.
