Men's Ashby Wax Jacket

I love this jacket. At first, I was a little hesitant because the fabric does have some stiffness to it because of the wax, but it’s not bad. This jacket is definitely high quality and will last years if you take care of it. I like it so much that I might buy more in other styles and colors. The only dislike is the zipper is on the “wrong” side. Men in the USA are used to zippers on the right and this is on the left. Speaking of the zipper, its very heavy duty.

I bought a size 44 Bedale - sent it back for a size 42 Bedale - sent that back too. Amazon did not have a size 40 in stock so I ordered from Orvis and BINGO! Size 40 Bedale was PERFECT for me! These jackets run very large in my experience. I am 198 pounds, 5' 11" tall with a 45" chest and a 34" waist. I am average to athletic build. I could use a few more push ups and sit ups but I don't have a spare tire around my waist so I'm not slim. Just average but also devilishly handsome so I have that going for me. I was swimming in the 44 and the 42. They looked like tents on me. I mulled and stressed about having to send back 2 jackets to Amazon and wait on the credits. But the credits came in a few days after I shipped each jacket back. I held on to the Amazon size 42 until the Orvis size 40 arrived and I could try it on. I had to shell out the money to Orvis because they were the only place that had a size 40. I shelled out $1200 and still didn't have a jacket that fit! Stressful! If size 40 was too small then I was going to keep the 42 and send the Orvis size 40 back. (No Barbour brick and mortar stores within 150 miles of me in case anyone wonders why I just didn't go try one on). Ok so the size 40 in the Bedale fits fantastic. Not too loose, not too tight and I have room to layer either a quilted Barbour vest zip in liner and I wore a hoodie underneath and it was very comfortable and still not tight. It was just perfect. In the spring or fall the jacket with just a t-shirt or button down shirt is still perfect size. I can't have hoped for a better more comfortable fit for me with size 40. The Barbour.com site shows Chest size 42-44 for "classic jackets" such as the Bedale as a size Large but that is just surprising since you can't buy a Barbour in sizes S, M, or Large. They don't list sizes that way anywhere that sells them! They list them in size numbers such as 38, 40, 42, 44, 46...and so on. I hope this helps others wanting to buy a Barbour Bedale.

I just received my Bedale Classic. It fits absolutely as expected (which is good after all the research I did). It is roomy enough to layer, which is a paramount feature for me. I wanted a jacket which isn't hot. I can layer as I choose. It also allows me to move with ease. I've been wearing in around, inside for over an hour. I'm not hot. The only nit-pick to make is the Ladies side zipper. I guess that is English? No worries. The zip is heavy brass. I don't expect it to fail. I can't wait to break this jacket in. Get the Patina rolling...

I really liked this jacket, but as I am a universal large it was too snug in the shoulders. I upsized to an XL and can now wear a sweater beneath. I would upsize for a layering fit, or use your current size for the tailored slim fit. I am 5'-8", 170 lbs with a 44" chest. Mine arrived with the plastic opened, tore and taped back, so it appears to be a return.

Perfect blend of classic style without the baggy fit. The medium Ashby fit me well, I normally wear a 40R in suit jacket. Sleeve length is perfect and I can layer a sweater underneath. I’m 6 ft tall and 150 lbs. Seller was a pleasure to work with and resolved a minor issue. Shipping speed was incredibly fast UK to US.

Sent coat back for refund cause of fitting issues, waited for refund to reorder next size up which should have fit perfectly, then come to find out there is a $75.00 restocking fee which wasn't disclosed up front, so buyers beware. Sorry but I will see if I can find another seller for the great coat, will still see if there is any way for me to get the restocking fee back.

Replaced my last Barbour (Beaufort) of 18 years, but this one will not make it one year. Better cut than my Beaufort fit-wise (ie horseback riding). However, tears and cuts from ordinary use. Unexpected.

This is a great jacket as advertised and delivered by seller in a very timely fashion considering it comes from England in these times. One caution though, make sure to check your size. I had a Beaufort Lightweight (no longer made) for many years in a medium and it is a generous fit. A medium in the Ashby did not fit, so I had to return and due to time had to shop elsewhere. Return processed promptly less shipping, so my mistake was costly in shipping and time.
