Perfect if you like loose tea!
I bought one of these for myself after seeing a friend use hers, and it's my favorite tea type thing ever. I've used a lot of different types of tea balls, tea bags for loose tea, screens that go in the mug, and this just out performs all of them. When my brother-in-law came to visit, he was fascinated with it, so I bought him one for Christmas, and he loves it too! This works wonderfully with loose tea, I've never had a problem with anything getting through the screen, and it's very easy to clean. It holds a lot of water so be careful when you set it on your mug. It can be easy to overflow your mug. We have pretty big mugs (16 oz) and filling it all the way to the top of the handle is just right. Obviously be careful when you snap the screen back in the bottom (and it will feel like you're going to break something because it's a nice tight fit), but in the 4 or 5 years I've had mine it's still intact and no damage at all.

Simple, sleek, effective
This is an amazing handy device for those of you who LOVE loose tea! I absolutely hate those tea balls because it seems like they always fall apart in my cup. One of my family members had one of these and I fell in love with the simplicity in using this. It is so easy! You boil your water separately, put a teaspoon or two (however strong you like your brew) of loose tea in the top, add your water, let it steep for a few minutes, and set the bottom on top of the lip of your cup and strain the liquid out. I do have to warn, be careful where you set the base of the tea maker because if you put any pressure on the plate portion, it starts releasing the liquid. Only down side I experienced was mine cracked, but I think it was defective to begin with.

Works well for loose leaf green tea
I opted for the pink color since it was the cheapest. No Teavana logo, the lid opens on a hinge but does not come off, and the mesh screen inside is unable to be removed for cleaning. That being said, I still don't have any trouble cleaning it. The plastic points of connection seems sturdy; I think it will remain durable with moderately careful use (if I had to choose, I think the lid hinge will break first). The bottom seal is great so far (1 week of use), with no leaking once the tea has finished draining. I wish there were gradations on the side that measured volume since I mainly am using it to brew green tea, but it was simple enough to measure out volumes and draw a line with a permanent marker. I'm happy with my purchase so far! If anything changes over the next couple months I will update my review accordingly. Happy brewing!

Love this thing!
Just got this tea maker recently and I'm absolutely loving it. I can safely say that I will not be making tea any other way as long as this is available. The unit seems sturdy enough, though it's not spectacular and I can foresee it breaking if it takes enough trauma. The design IS spectacular however and it not only makes a perfect cup of tea, but it's actually pretty fun to use! Once you start steeping the tea, you can watch the leaves float around in the water which I particularly enjoy because you can see the tea being made, and if you like a certain strength on your tea, you can check the color to make sure it's to your liking. After the tea has been steeped you just place the unit on top of whatever mug you're using and it drops it right in. The strainer works very well and I've only ever gotten a tiny speck of a tea leaf in my tea once. I will also say as a side note, a clear mug would make this much easier to use, since the tea leaves sort of block your view into the mug which means it's tough to see how much liquid you're pouring into the mug. However, it's easy to avoid this problem by just pre-measuring the amount of water you need so you don't have to worry about it. Clean up is very easy as well as the strainer pops out decently easily and it's just a matter of a quick rinse out, and then soapy water when you really need to clean it. Overall, I could not give higher recommendations to this unit. Perfect way to make a great cup of tea!

Really great, but with one minor flaw
The good: This is really easy to use and you don't get any leaves in your tea. It also looks really cool when making the tea. You just put tea leaves and hot water in the top, let it steep, then put it over a mug (or anything else you drink tea from) and it automatically pours the brewed tea from the bottom. The bad: As the tea pours directly into the cup from the bottom of the tea maker, unless you have a clear mug you can't see how much you're pouring. Lifting the tea maker up to check the quantity in the cup is slightly annoying, and I've had a few overflows, but it's not a big deal. It's also avoidable with the extra step of pouring the liquid into the cup/mug to measure and then into the tea maker. Cleaning: It's pretty easy to clean. Generally, I throw out the leaves right away and then rinse the tea maker out with hot water. I then let it dry with the lid open. That does the job pretty well. If I let it sit or decide that I want a more thorough cleaning, the filter pops out very easily. However, I did have a bit of trouble getting it back in the first few times. It takes a little practice, but becomes very easy. Overall, I highly recommend this tea maker, even with the small flaw. |-----Update April 2014-----| There are other reviews mentioning how the bottom doesn't come off and that you can't clean the filter. I think those refer to old models. I purchased this tea maker in June 2011, still use it at least once a week, can pop the filter out to wash, and have had no issues with corrosion.

Perfectea Review: $$$ Product, Price, and Quantitative Reasoning
Aahhh.... simply delightful!! Go ahead, treat yourself. It's SO worth the money in the end! Let me start my saying I am southern gal who loves her traditional sweet tea: not the uppidy, snotty gal you find perusing the tea shops with my nose in the air. My 20 year old daughter who is health conscious was using I got this along with the TEAVANA Perfect Mug (16 oz) and Teavana Perfect Tea Maker (16 oz). I also ordered and have a few flavors of there teas. Together... the PERFECT Teaspoon, PERFECT Mug and this PERFECTTEA Maker from TEAVANA, produce a quality cup of tea that induces a tranquil and happy feeling in my soul and tastebuds. I look forward to tea time every day. $$$ Let's talk money! I cringe at paying so much for the Teavana tea. I am a sensible person who likes to save, so I was hesitant to spend the money. but this isn't just spending, this was an investment on a little bit of peace and happiness for myself. The spoon, mug and tea maker will pay off in a short time ( I forgo Starbucks 9 out of 10 times now to go home and enjoy my teaset). The TEAVANA tea is very pricey; however, I actually purchased a 35 ounce canister of Jasmine tea, and Mango tea at TJ MAXX for $19.99!! I mix my favorite Teavana JADE CITRUS MINT half and half with one of the others, and it not only saves a lot of $, but tastes more amazing (cuts the bitter). Let's do a little Quantitative Reasoning here. We know that: 6 teaspoons = 1 Ounce. BREAKDOWN: Package Price: Per OZ: TOTAL TEASPOONS FINAL COST PER Teaspoon Teavana Tea: $ 8.00 for 2.00 Oz = $4.00 per Oz 12 $.68 TJ Maxx Tea: $20.00 for 35.27 Oz = $ .57 per Oz 211 $.01 NO! You do not need to adjust your eyes or get new glasses!! The math speaks the truth!! lol Hope that is helpful and not confusing in your decision making process of purchasing this product, finding an affordable alternative, enjoying your tea and an effective argument in persuading/justifying it to your spouse or significant other should you have one. =D

Pure Genius!!
Okay, I admit... I'm a coffee drinker. But when the days get shorter and colder-- I love to sip tea when chilling out at home. After having some fresh brewed loose tea one day, I decided then and there that no more tea bags for me... So I began to research various mechanisms to use at home for brewing tea, and came upon this one. I must honestly say, it is one of the best purchases I've ever made! It's so easy... you just put the amount of loose tea you need to use, and pour the hot water over it and let it steep for as long as the type of tea recommends, then you just put it on your mug/cup and the tea instantly pours into your cup. No muss, no fuss! I love this lil' tea maker so much, that I'm gonna purchase a couple more, and give them as Xmas gifts along with some tea samples and a Mug. You can't go wrong with this, and if you're a serious tea drinker, or an occasional one-- you need this!
