Yes, it’s retractable. You can also swap the parts between other lightsaber forge lightsabers. (Each sold separately)

How well do these hold up to use? Our little wants to light saber fight with dad, and a cheap pair we had before didn’t hold up super well.

My boys fight with them and we had one stop making noise from it but we’ve never had one crack or break, it still lit up as well just didn’t make noise.
