SpaldingU-Turn® Lift System

Trying to install a new 54" Spalding Acryllic backboard to the universal Spalding elevator. Missing 2 half inch self locking nuts that should attach to the 7 1/4" long bolts that I have remaining--according to the instructions there is also a 4" metal spacer that should fit between the 2 sets of crossbars connecting the elevator to the backboard. However, there is no room to fit the spacer between 2 inches of the mounting plates on the backboard. I would pickup a couple bolts, but something tells me the instructions are whack. See pictures where the included 7 in bolt is supposed to fit in the backboard and the elevator mount. If someone has an answer, I would love to hear it since support is gone for the weekend, and my kids are now upset they can't play ball yet!

We replaced our old backboard and needed an adjustable mount to be able to get the height to 10 feet. ( Our original one was adjustable also). Works great. Installation was a bit rough, but we were done in a couple of hours.

Purchased the SPALDING Universal Elevator Mount and the SPALDING 54" performance acrylic backboard and rim combo. Despite these products being compatible per SPALDING, the provided hardware to attach the backboard to the elevator mount was too large and the proper size was NOT PROVIDED. No problem, just contact SPALDING support, right? Was told "you need to send an email with pictures that we will then send to our Product Development Team. This could take 5-7 business days". I then waited 8 business days, still no answer from the Product Development Team. "They are still working on it." The customer service agents at SPALDING have clearly never actually constructed one of these hoops and are unable to answer even the simplest questions. Pair this with unprofessional customer service agents (intentionally hanging up on you when you get understandably frustrated) and you're in for a very poor experience.AVOID purchasing this product. The assembly instructions are severely lacking as is the customer service. SPALDING is aware of this and simply doesn't care.

Love the concept of this lift system, however you need to assemble the entire unit with the back board and then figure out where it needs to be to obtain the desired height. This left multiple scratches in our pole. Not a huge deal, however it would be so easy for Spaulding to tell customers where to place it. Also it states that it fits "most" Spaulding and Huffy backboards. Could you list those out in the description so the consumer is'nt left searching and calling customer service to determine what works and what does not?

Started to rust within 3 months! Not worth the time and effort.

Writing this review as I noticed other reviewers were frustrated with the process of trying to mount the Spalding acrylic backboards (e.g. the 54" I used) to this, as was I. Hoping this helps: the trick is not following the instructions for mounting an "H frame" backboard, which those acrylic backboards appear to be based on the photos in the instructions (and what I'm seeing other reviewers tried based on their photos), but instead follow the instructions for the "steel-framed" backboard, despite looking different having a rounded frame. I spent time with some calipers and the various pieces and realized those instructions fit the bill. Spalding must have changed the dimensions on mounting bracket on the acrylic backboard at some point, as other photos I've seen of those backboards match the wider spacing of the H-frame brackets. This uses a set of shorter plastic spacers instead of the longer metal ones. Not sure why they made this change, as it seems inferior with the narrower attachment spacing.Also: when installing, avoid the temptation to overtighten or the elevator tubes will crush a bit. You'll be tempted because the spacers never seem to get flush with the nearest surface without tightening more and more, but it's not really an issue in practice and by that point, the tubes begin to crush. This also highlights that there is very tight tolerance between the elevator tubes and the lower bolt heads for the screw jack -- and if you over-tighten they will make contact and height adjustment will not be possible. I added some tacky grease to those bolt heads just in case to minimize the risk of damaging the coat.Speaking of grease, I also note that my screw jack really needed a spray of white lithium grease (into the upper mounting holes worked), as it was difficult to turn prior to that.Finally: the biggest failing of the instructions is not providing complete guidance on how the mounting height of this system's bracket on a vertical surface translates to the minimum AND maximum heights of the rim. An unbelievable exclusion. I haven't gotten around to re-measuring after installation, as I was so happy to be done with the ordeal, but I installed with the bottom of the plate that mounted on my wall at 94" above the ground, and the rim reaches a few inches above 10' and lowers to a few inches over 7.5' (based on my initial measurements when I assembled it on my workbench to come up with a plan before installing it, this system provides 32" of vertical adjustment, not 36" as advertised, so that height indicating sticker will also never be quite right).Overall I'm satisfied with the destination but was not happy with the journey to get there.
