I am a woodworker, and wondering if this unit will detect nails and other metal objects in rough cut lumber. Some of the lumber is 2 inches+ thick.

Hello. No, the MS740 would not work to detect nails in rough cut lumber, because it needs to be depressed against the scanning surface the whole time that it is scanning. A better tool for this application would be the Zircon MetalliScanner M40. Thank you.

Can i glue a neodymium magnet to the wall-facing side to detect nails without compromising the function of zircon edge finding stud sensors?

I have not tried it but I believe you can use the metal scan to find nail heads.

Will this detect through plaster walls?
