The one that I received is magnetic. You should send it back to get one that is magnetic. It is a beautiful set and is worth buying.

I ordered the same set and they are magnetic, but one wrong move with your finger will move them. Once I had mine all set up I have had zero issues with them and they have made a nice addition to the gnome house I built.

Could you play actually chess on this well?

I don't know how to play chess, I bought it for my grandson, he plays chess, but I am putting it on a base, for his graduation with his mini cap and gown
