Isle of Dogs

Love this film. Really interesting idea that holds the plot together. The characters and voices are brilliant. The expressions on the faces of the animated characters (especially the dogs) are hilarious and sad at the same time. Everything fits perfectly - plot, dialog, locations, characterization, voices, animated figures, music, art, graphics. Faultless.

at first I found it a little too tense - I suppose because it's animation I thought it would be more innocent (it's certainly not innocent) but on the second watch I appreciated the excellent story telling. Very emotional, music is awesome and atmospheric and the animation is second to none!! It's very dear to my heart now....

Great film by a great film maker. Was sceptical at first that it was going to be good (my children wanted to wathc it) but really engaged and charmed by this excellent film.

Excellent made movie, crazy but cool, and I love the animations. Not to every ones taste but my 4 yr old son started to watch this on an Air France flight. He choose this himself. And for some reason loved it and watched it for about 30 minutes. I saw a few bits if it and decided to watch the whole movie. Great, and like the Japanese theme too.

La película llegó a tiempo y en buen estado. Hermosa película, su forma de narrativa es genial, entretiene mucho y sus personajes son formidables. Viene hablada al español.

"Isle of Dogs" is a masterpiece of modern stop-motion animation. It's not exactly kid-friendly but it does have a childlike air to it. much of the animation is reminiscent of classics like "Davey & Goliath" in some respects. However, it has more in common with Leika's modern classics such as "Coraline", "Para Norman" and "The Box Trolls". The plot centers around a boy looking for his lost dog. The fictional city of Megasaki is ruled by cat-lovers who have found a way to banish all dogs to the spoiled Trash Island. This is a story of rebellion against tyranny and inhumane practice. The story is mostly told through the eyes of five dogs who befriend the boy and help him in his search. I don't want to say more as that would spoil the fun. This film is edgy and might actually be a tear-jerker for dog-lovers - but not in a bad way. The story is gripping and can be enjoyed by anyone over the age of 12 (this is not a hard number by any means). I think if I had to pick a favorite dog from the film it would be Oracle. She's a pug who is revered because she has visions (which actually turns out to be that she watches television). Oracle is partnered with a Black Lab named Jupiter. I knew a real Black Lab named Jupiter from my childhood and I have fond memories of him. This is a film of our time and it's definitely worth seeing and owning.
