Works great, strong and well-made!
Bought this for a hen at the bottom of the pecking order who was getting harassed by the rooster as well as several dominant hens. She was losing feathers from the harassment. I received this saddle and the shipping was FAST! It was easy to figure out, but there were also instructions just in case, which was helpful. It went on the hen very easily and fit nicely. It stays on her securely even when she is very active and when she gets attention from the rooster. Actually just having it on her seems to dissuade some of the other hens from picking on her. Her feathers are starting to grow back now. She shows no discomfort or anything from wearing it and actually seems to be a little more confident since she is not being harassed so much. ABSOLUTELY worth the money. It seems to be very well made, and sturdy, and easy to clean. If I ever need to saddle another hen I'm 100% buying from this company again. Thanks so much!

Durable protection for your hens
Very well made and provides excellent protection. We had 2 hens that seemed to be the favorites of the rooster and both had lost so many feathers that the rooster was starting to scratch their skin. We got a couple of these chicken saddles and put them on the hens at night while they were sleepy and calm. The next morning both hens seemed much more confident and active than they had been the previous weeks. They've been wearing them for a few weeks now and they are holding up great. And the hens' feathers are growing back. The instructions provided were helpful and the saddles are pretty easy to put on the hens. The snap options to accommodate different sized hens is great. We could adjust each one to fit each hen.

Just what I needed!!
I've had chickens for about 14 years. I used saddles about 12 years ago, but they were much different than these. Things change! I have a new flock of chickens that are about 9 months old now, and two of the hens are favorites of my two roosters. I've got 18 girls but these two seem to get more attention than the others. Unfortunately that means that their backs are basically devoid of feathers at this point. My biggest concern is that with naked skin showing, they are subject to mosquitoes, and other biting bugs, Plus being scratched or hurt by the roosters. I chose these particular Saddles because they were a mesh material. I didn't need the Wing protectors, but they came as a set. I thought they were a bit expensive, but the reviews for them were very good. I chose mesh because I live in Central Florida, and it's hot here about 8 months of the year. Plus we get a lot of rain through the summer. I figured that the mesh would allow them to stay cool and dry quickly. No solid material to make them overheat during the summer months. They were easy to put on, although the girls weren't very happy with me! Lol! One girl walked backwards for about 10 minutes, the white one, and scared everybody in the flock!! I think they thought she had lost her mind or something. And the other girl didn't even notice she had it on. Neither one notices they're wearing it at this point. The mesh material is very flexible yet very strong. They are extremely well made, and the snaps are very strong. My girls are mid to smaller size so I used it on the smaller snap size, and it fit fine. I imagine that I will get many years of use out of these. I was hoping that I could buy a two pack of the mesh, but it was only available in size small. I'm not happy at having to spend $26 for two saddles, but what can I say. As I stated earlier my decision was based on it being a mesh material, and being the only such mesh Saddles available that I can find. Overall, I think they are a very good product. They are very well made, and very sturdy. I'm sure that they're very easy to clean if necessary. And they protect the girls backs very well. Very happy with my purchase! Update 6/24/26 I continue to use the same saddles. They work just as they did two years ago. They wear them through the summer, and I removed them in the wintertime, because the roosters are not very active then. I have learned that you need to hand wash them! A bowl of hot soapy water in the kitchen sink, whoosh them around a bit, let them soak for fifteen or twenty minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. I then snapped them on to a hangar, where I can usually fit about 8. Air dry, and they're ready to go for next season.

PERFECT!
This is the best saddle I've found! Ive tried 2 others and they didnt fit right and my certain hen couldn't get used to them. This one, as soon as I put it on, it fit perfectly! The shoulder pieces fit and work great! She walked just fine as soon as I put her down. Her feathers are growing back!! I highly recommend!

Look closely FIRST.
This product is FANTASTIC and worth the money BUT before you stress a hen 2 pieces of advice. 1. Inspect the product and make sure it is fully functional before you try it on a hen or :you know what" happens ๐ฉ when you have a stressed out hen flapping feathers. Yeah. Let's say that experience (yes yes it's "my fault" for trusting it was a complete product) contributed DIRECTLY to 4 ๐'s. 2. Watch a video FIRST before you attempt to saddle the hen. The directions are a little hard for a visual or kinesthetic learner. Whatching a tutorial helped out a ton. The actual "side to face up" is seen in both photos. The strap goes under the wing and attaches to the snap that, in my case, was unfortunately missing. Then the three snaps secure those straps in place. Thankfully I ordered 2 to start so I was able to help out the hen. Would I recommend this product? You bet. It fits securely Will I buy a few more for my flock? Absolutely ๐ฏ %.

Easy to size and 'apply' to hen, works great!
I am really a fan of this saddle. I have a barred rock who had lost a significant patch of feathers on her back during molt. As they tried to grow back in, a few of the other hens were fascinated with them (read, 'those dont belong, let me pull them out for you!) and wouldn't allow them to grow back in. This saddle covered the area perfectly. The other ladies pecked it a few times out of curiosity, then left her alone in her new 'armor.' She's dustbathed in it daily, and it hasn't slowed her down at all. She isn't much of a flyer, but had no issues getting onto the perch at night. The pros- 1. Very adjustable on the fly (pun intended). 2. Heavy weave (looks like it would be great vs rooster treading) 3. Moisture resistant 4. Very easy to apply (I just can't say 'dress my chicken'). My birds are well handled, and it only took a minute or two, complete with adjusting the snaps for a more snug fit, to gear up my girl (one person holding a grape, the other placing the saddle, figuring the best placement and snapping it closed). Literally in minutes she was wandering around as if she'd worn this her entire life. No muss, no drama, no issues once it was fitted properly. The cons- It's a heavy weave (but that's the point, isn't it?). I'm not sure I would use this in the heat of a Florida summer though because of the thickness. I left it on her for several days, and then took it off for a few hours before reapplying. For some reason, I was concerned it would keep moisture in (high humidity environment) but that didn't seem to be an issue. Great product, and I would happily purchase again. A wider range of colors would be nice, but hardly a necessity.

Good quality and good company.
These are pretty much as described. The material is good quality and holds up well under use and cleaning. I certainly do appreciate the video supplied by the company on how to put them on. I will look for other products from them. The 5 stars is for the product, the seller and maker of these saddles. My chicken raising experience however, has left me to believe that if you need these things because of an aggressive or over sexing rooster, you need to get rid of the rooster. When I put this on my chicken, she freaked completely out and all the other chickens did as well. It does take some time for all of them to get used to it. She was attacked by the other chickens, not because they were mean, but I think because they thought she was under attack by something on her back and were trying to help her. Even though the aggression eventually stopped after a few hours, my chicken that had to wear it hated it and never really got used to it. When I took it off for cleaning and was putting it back on, she pecked at it trying to keep me from putting it on. I felt really bad for her. The other thing that I noticed is there was a little chafing under her wings because of the straps. And no, they were not too tight. The little patterns are pretty, but I would offer this advice and what I would do differently: I would get one of a color that matches their feather color as closely as possible. The bright colors seem to draw a lot of attention from the other chickens. I donโt know if it would matter in the long run or not, but it kind of made sense at the time. It was my fault I had to resort to buying these things. I had no intention of getting a rooster when I picked out my chicks, but I got the usual โTractor Surpriseโ. I had no intention of hatching eggs either. I did bring the RIR rooster home and tried to raise him not to be aggressive and I went a full year but it just didnโt work. Needless to say, as it is now, I donโt have the need for these saddles anymore (or at this time).

Protect your ladies!
Easy to put on, effective, well tolerated by the hens. Second season using them and theyโve held up very nicely.

Well made, good fit
This is a nicely made product. We liked the adjustability and the ease of fitting on to our small hen. She seems comfortable with it and it was a breeze to put on.

These chicken saddles fit well and work well, good quality, the chooks love it
I've had these saddles/aprons on a couple of chooks for about a month now, because of no feathers left on their backs from constant rooster attention towards their two favourite hens. The aprons were easy to fit and the girls had no problem quickly getting used to them. They actually seem quite proud of their aprons! The hardest thing was catching the chooks and keeping them still/calm, then the fitting was easy, but I did read the instructions well and played with opening and closing of the clips etc beforehand. I used the standard clip stud fitting first (there is a size adjustment system). One chook needed hers tightened (clip moved to a different stud) due to slipping off one wing after a couple of weeks of wearing it, she's been fine since then. I forgot to insert the optional soft black plastic 'wings' that came with the aprons, but found I haven't needed them anyway (the 'wings' seem to be for stopping the apron from sliding sideways out of place, but I recommend initially trying the apron without them). Occasionally the rear end of an apron is turned upwards after a night jostling on the roost, but then it ends up back in the correct position on its own during the day. Their feathers are starting to grow back properly under the aprons, which is great because I was a bit concerned the tips would continue to be rubbed off. So I'm very pleased with this product, even the colours are nice. A big thank you to the designers and manufacturers.

Brilliant
These saddles work really well, are sturdily made, comfortable and fit both my larger and medium hens. I had a serious problem with my rather splendid Black Orphington cockerel as he wore the feathers off two of my hens and traumatised the one and I was reluctantly thinking I would have to rehome him. However after the hens had been wearing the saddles for a couple of days he has left them alone and they are happy again and don't have to hide from him.

Great product - highly recommend
Great product! I bought this not for rooster enthusiasm but because I have a hen with a large bald spot and the follicles are non existent which was causing big problems with sun burn :( getting sun cream onto her everyday was too hard and stressful as sheโs super shy but I was told of a chicken saddle lol anyway I just put it on her and it fits perfectly and covers her large bald patch. Itโs really well made and the company are great . Thanks heaps :)
