Q: Is there an option to only use homekit secure video and not upload/stream footage anywhere else?

Yep that’s exactly how I’m using my G3, and it works flawlessly in HKSV, better then other HomeKit cameras too. I don’t have mine connected to the official Aqara app, I don’t trust any company behind security cameras, but I do trust Apple’s HKSV.

Q: Can I take the ears off?

Yes, the ears are removable. You can take the ears off or put them on if you are feeling whimsical.

Q: Does this camera require a subscription?

NO. This does not require a subscription but it does require an SD card and you need the aqara app for it to work

Q: Is this as good or better than the m2 hub as a hub? the camera is a nice addition but the hub is my priority.

For me, it drop the connection constantly. Not suitable for a hub!
