Great sound, great price
Initial setup is straight forward...follow the on screen instructions and you'll be up and running in no time. Sounds quality is amazing! (Naturally, quality speakers are a must.) The first amp I've ever owned where the dialog enhancement actually works. Surround sound modes work really well, even when decoding OTA/streaming broadcasts. 4k pass-through is sharp and lag-free. Bluetooth pairing to your phone is easy and takes about 10 seconds. This is a quality amp for home theater use at a good price point.

Great product at a fantastic price.
I'm super glad I ended up buying the Denon. The sound is great and the eArc integration with my TV and DVD players is flawless (albeit rather complicated to setup). The number of HDMI ports is great. I haven't tried the phono input yet but it's inclusion was a major factor in deciding on this model; has both moving coil and moving magnet but you can only use one or the other; not dual phono inputs. The AM and FM tuner section works really well but I can get just about every station over the internet so why bother. I initially had it set up with the wireless ethernet but switch to wired through a switch since the TV and both DVD players also want an ethernet connection. I wish it had more RCA AUX ports for a VCR and cassette player. The audio balancing routine is a nice touch but set up the TV first as it's really difficult to navigate without the on screen prompts. The mic wire needs to be just a little longer for a large room. A USB C connection would be a nice touch but for $400 I couldn't be happier.

Good value - excellent sound at a reasonable price.
Very easy to set up - high quality electronics with excellent integration with computers running HEOS.

Great product for the price, albeit with speaker connection considerations!
Love the features and Denon sound! I’ve had the unit for 3 months. It took about 30 hours of fun before I had it al down. With computer-like selection, these page to page internal maps gradually unleashed a killer sound and variety, with some disappointments (see later in review), but for the money this is a great sounding unit! I have a large bedroom-sized room for music and movies. Incredible upgrade from my previous setup. But BEWARE before you buy this model, that it’s a 7.2 output, including a second zone . The receiver can give you Dolby Atmos, Height and surround backs etc., and a second stereo zone, but you share ONE pair of speaker terminals on the x1700 for all of these extra features. (There are 2 subwoofer outs, but only for the main zone, so it’s really 7.2.) Another nice feature is an excellent phono pre-amp. One quirk. You can’t have a zone 2 set and Dolby Atmos at the same time without going to the back of the receiver and changing the wires. An internal speaker patch would be a great cure for this, but then you could just spend another $500 and get the x3000 9.2 series units with more headroom, too, although this is a punchy little monster through my Linn speakers and a KLH and JBL subs and JBL Studio Monitor 4311 sides. I have one sub behind the listening position so I can reach back and adjust 80-500hz at will. The price went up 10% a few months after I bought it, so beware if you’re on the fence.

Simple setup; great feature set; solid performance
I'm impressed with how easy Denon made the setup procedure for this receiver. I've set up a few receivers in the past and this was by far the most straightforward. Even the layout of the plugs on the back are done in such a way to make connections easy even if you're using bare wire (although banana plugs are still the way to go). The icing on the cake is that the plugs are color coded, with a set of labels provided so you can label your speaker wires top match. My only quibble on the setup process is that the screen font used for the setup wizard is terrible -- looks like something from the 1980s. The feature set is very rich, and it can take some time to become familiar with. The full manual is available from the Denon site. It's a comprehensive 300+ page guide. But, learning the basics is quick, so diving into the manual is something to do only if you want to tweak and improve things. The auto speaker calibration is OK -- it will produce a decent sound that most people would be happy with. Doing it manually is more time consuming, but in my case provided a much better end result since I have an unusual room layout. My system consists of a Polk ES-35 center; Polk ES-15 fronts; Polk ES-10 surrounds; SVS PB-1000 sub. Over the years I've had various Denon and Onkyo receivers and have always preferred the sound quality of the Denon's. This is no exception -- five stars.

Revised
Excellent channel seperation, plenty loud enough. Reviews well against other receivers costing 2x as much. For the most part very pleased with purchase. Took 1 star off for when switching to game from TV it doesn't do it automatically. I have to go to home/connections then select the receiver as source. Minor inconvenience. Switches from game to tv with no added step. Added a star for 5 total...think it was a tv problem on my s90f, just needed a power reset.

Junkware
It's another piece of modern junkware, underpowered and controlled by apps. You can use their proprietary equalizer that does everything on its own, and sounds bad, but that's your only option because there are no manual equalizer settings. Also this thing sounds really weak and when I turned on one of the apps it shut off my music because it had to do a software update. I'm never buying new technology again, because these people are incapable of making anything other than app-based trash. Go to a pawn shop and find a retro stereo unit, doesn't matter if it's 50 years old, it will work better than this Setup difficulty: Even though it is an analog receiver it will not function unless you plug it up to a tv or use their app. If you want to use this for a record player for instance, you have to disconnect a TV and connect it to this just to scroll to the button on screen to tell it to allow you to use the physical buttons on the machine. Gross incompetence, why install buttons if you don't let them do anything?

Great receiver
I've only had this unit for about a month. It seems great. The on screen setup support was very helpful. It doesn't have any of the glitches and power struggles my old Sony receiver had. Very classy. It's nice to have all 7 speakers of my Dolby Atmos system functional (I skipped the powered subwoofer.)

Excelente Receiver
Excelente receiver.
