Review: A must have if you're going kosher or are curious - My Rebbetzin, mashpiah and great friend for many years suggested this book as I am getting my small kitchen kashered soon and even though she walked me through the process years ago, I need a "refresher" course to make sure my kitchen is, well, properly kashered! No matter how much I think I know there's always more and I will always have questions which isn't a bad thing! This book is very helpful and the author is familiar; I've had his Shabbos companion book that's awesome for years! Highly recommend "Going Kosher in 30 Days"! Review: Amazing book! Perfect for anyone new to keeping kosher - This book is amazing! Itโs the perfect book for someone who didnโt grow up in a kosher home and who is either โkosher curiousโ or looking to transition to a full kosher lifestyle. Itโs a very easy read and so educational. I reference it frequently.

Great book for beginners and advanced.
This book is a great book for those who are looking to go kosher or just learn about Kashrut. It is also a great review for those of us who have been keeping kosher our whole lives and you may learn a thing or two you didn't know before. From theory to practice, this book has it all. Definitely a great buy!

Also a good book for non-Jewish people
Although this is clearly a book designed to help Jewish people understand and implement Kosher, I bought it because I am non-Jewish and have always wondered what Kosher was all about. Now I know. I would recommend this book to non-Jewish people to help us understand our Jewish friends.

Good book, but with a BIG asterisk
Although this book has much to recommend it, the author should have been more forthcoming that the book does not always reflect the approach of normative and mainstream Orthodox Judaism, but that of Chabad. The section regarding Chalav Yisrael is a case in point. One would not know from reading this section that normative and mainstream Orthodox Jewish practice in the United States is that while dairy products do need Rabbinic certification, they do not require the level of supervision required to label them "Chalav Yisrael." In other words, normative and mainstream Orthodox Jewish practice accepts these products as perfectly kosher, although not ideal. I found it troubling that the author, in trying to convince the reader to not use non-Chalav Yisrael products uses arguments that mask what his true concerns are, which are not normative halacha or practical considerations, but mystical beliefs of particular concern to followers of Chabad. (Many Orthodox Jews who are not Chabad also insist on Chalav Yisrael, but not for the reasons this author presents.) Perhaps, as a follower of Chabad, the author could not present points of view that his own movement does not accept. However, I think that he should have at least been up front about this. Wherever he knew full well that there was a conflict between normative Orthodox practice and that of Chabad, he should have pointed this out and, at minimum, directed his non-Chabad readers to their Local Orthodox Rabbi. And, where he argues for something because it is the position of Chabad, he should do so with full disclosure, rather than pretend that his concerns are coming from somewhere else. Were the author to do this, this would be a five star book. I have not reviewed the entire book and because Chabad practice generally coincides with normative Orthodox practice, my concerns should not be a reason for non-Chabad followers to not buy the book, but only a reason to also be in touch with another Orthodox Rabbi, just to make sure.

A great place to begin the journey of going Kosher.
A great primer on going Kosher. I am new to Judaism and I'm eager to learn all I can. This book explains a lot and gives helpful tips on where to begin the process. It details the nuts and bolts of the basics of going kosher in a simple, reader friendly manner but still offers spiritual insight into the practice. This was just what I was looking for!

Your kitchen is lost without it!
As a new convert I have a number of Kosher publications in my possession. If I were asked to pick one as my "go to" guide it would be GOING KOSHER. Given its convenient size one would think that there is something missing from the Kosher conversation. Nothing could be farther from the truth -- put this book in your library!

A good base for the why's, how's & when's, but too waffly.
"Q: Can I go kosher and still be a vegan, vegetarian, or maCrobiotic? A: Yes, you can be kosher on these diets. Just make sure to eat at least a little piece of chicken on Shabbat and..." I am not sure the author fully understands (or appreciates) what a vegan, vegetarian, or macrobiotic eater is to still suggest eating "a little piece of chicken". I would imagine that the real answer is no, you cannot be kosher on these diets if meat must be eaten as commanded by Torah. Also as you can see in the quote, which was copied and pasted from the Kindle edition, its digitisation is not 100%. The information provided in this book is indeed invaluable, but it is quite waffly rather than just getting to the point. Waffling only works if the writer's personality comes through in the literature. This did not happen for me and found to be reading many repeated sentences and phrases in the various chapters. A good base for the why's, how's & when's, but too waffly.
