Benny and Christopher, college freshmen, meet playing football and begin a relationship. They fall in love supported by their family and friends. As their love for each other grows, a past tragic event involving their mothers comes to light. This revelation tests their own love and Benny's close-knit family.Throughout this reflective love story, with the beauty of rural Ohio as its backdrop, Benny travels an emotional journey that examines both his own feelings and his family's ability to come to terms with the past. AKRON is a sensitive and unique independent film that puts a progressive, Midwestern spin on a classic family drama. A heart-tugging and romantic story of loss, forgiveness, and the wonderful insanity of family. --ClevelandFilm.org Not only unique for its approach to same-sex relationships but because of the tragic past that connects the families of the boyfriends, Benny and Christopher. --Star Observer Akron blends a beautiful love story with an emotional family drama to tell a unique and compelling story of family, love, loss, and acceptance. --ImageOut.com Review: Amazing - One of my absolute favorites. . Well done movie. A positive ending to a tragic past. Very Highly recomended.
I have watched this movie now 4 or 5 times. This movie has brought a tear to my eyes every time. The acting is Class A; the best acting possible, even deserving an Academy Award. After discovering a horrible tragedy in the past, that pitted one against the other, both characters were able to overcome their issues and bond again. Forgiveness, Compassion, and True Love, surfaced in a swirl of conflicting emotion. So Very Well done! I cant give this movie enough stars. You walk away from this movie, feeling for the characters in it. You feel their pain. If 5 stars is the highest rating, then I give this movie 6 stars, for better than best.

Pretty good movie, plot and twist original. Sound and camera is distracting and poor, very poor and drops review by a whole star
If you've seen my post about movies you know that I collect gay films. I wanted to like this one more, not sure why. I enjoyed it, but something was off. I'm gong to go with sound delay and camera movement did lower my rating and love of film. I can't stand movies that don't synchronize voice to lips. Hugh delay. My system allows my to adjust this from .500th mils to a for second. (Hope I did that right) my point I can always get it perfect. Not on this film so I wasn't always looking at the actors/lips because it was like watching a 1960s Godzilla movie japensse to English . My best analogy . Solid movie and original.

Excellent!
Moving beyond sexuality as identity and the clichés of such, Akron focuses on the characters as nuanced, specific, whole people. We do not see the characters enacting the limited role of ‘being gay’ that the world has seen too often in film and television. Akron connects to viewers on a variety of levels and is accessible to a wide audience. It deals with the themes of a first great love and looking inside ourselves to overcome a struggle to push beyond what we thought was the limit of what we could handle. This film takes place in a society in which families support their children, whatever their sexuality might be. The cross-cultural relationship is not a struggle and the characters are embraced for who they are, until the history of a completely random event disrupts their lives. This reveals plainly that it is our own internal struggle and conflict causing our limitations in accepting others. I found the characters’ reactions to be genuine as they earnestly worked through their emotions, knowing full well they didn’t want to be feeling the way they were but at the same time could not deny their emotional responses. It is in part this quality and depth in the character development which makes the film inspiring, universal and relatable to all. Akron is about people responding to emotional events in the context of their relationships, free from any additional labels.

Great Date Movie
Small, but good looking cast. At first glance, it seems like a run of the mill boy meets the perfect boy story. But you know real life, perfect as the perfect guy is, the potential deal killer always pops up. This tale is intricate and well fleshed out. Keep those tissues handy so (you and) your squeeze can have a good cry, because IT IS a touching story.

Tender love in a perfect world, until...
I am a sucker for gay love stories, probably because when I grew up there were no such things except for some books where the ending was tragic. Nowadays there are many silly, frothy comedies with gay men making a mess of their love lives before finally falling for the man we knew they should have been with from the start. Akron is the gay romance for people who don't like gay romances. It starts with two college guys who "meet cute" and cautiously start dating. In this perfect, idealized movie world their families are completely supportive and raise no objections to the young men's sexuality or choice of partner. The conflict comes from a tragic accident depicted at the opening of the story, which comes back and threatens to destroy this idyllic romance. It is not at all certain that the young men or their families will be able to get past this unbearably painful event, and the way that they all work through it is what makes this a finely crafted and moving cinematic experience.
