Usborne Publishing Ltd Earthquakes & Tsunamis

2015年、改めて、日本は「地震」や「火山」の脅威にさらされている国なのだなと自覚させられる今日この頃ですが、先ずは知識だけでもと思い購入してみました。14のパートで、地殻の構造、断層、地震の起こる仕組みから震災後の救助、津波警報、最後は地震予知に関する内容まで触れています。（2012年頃の情報か）豊富なイラストと写真で、日本の小学校の避難訓練の取り組み等も紹介されており、比較的Up to date な印象です。津波はインドネシア大津波が紹介されています。内容レベルとしては、「NHKスペシャル」や「サイエンスZERO」等を普通に見ているような方なら英語のままで感覚的に理解できると思います。巻末には用語集もあります。「地学基礎」の教科書も購入していたのですが、概要をつかむには本書の方がわかりやすかったです。英語の必要性に迫られる昨今、自然科学系に興味があるならば、本書は効率的に英語を吸収できると思います。またそういう方には、自然科学と歴史が中心のアズボーン ビギナーズ シリーズはお薦めです。

My son is 5 and likes the range of Usbourne books. This book has good pictures and easy to understand text. It explains in easy to understand terminology 'everything a child needs to know about earthquakes and tsunamis'.

Good Content. Good explanation with color images. Book quality is excellent. Great learning experience for kids of age 5-6 years.

Great for my 7 year old son who is learning about earthquakes and tsunamis as his school topic. Pitched at just the right level. I love this book series. He has many of the other titles in the non fiction series.
