Cy Twombly [Storsve, Jonas] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Cy Twombly Review: Changed My Mind About Twombly - For a long time I had dismissed Twombly's art as just childish scribbles and sloppy smears of paint. But I have thought about his work a lot, and kept wondering why he was considered to be so great. One of his teachers was my favorite artist, Robert Motherwell, and he thought very highly of Twombly's work. So after long consideration I bought this book, thinking it would be a comprehensive survey of his work. I began to look and to read, and it dawned on me that he was indeed a great artist. Not easy to cozy up to at first, but worth the effort to try to understand it. He knew what he was doing, and he knew it was great. I am now a fan of his art, and will enjoy this book for many years to come. Beautifully laid out and printed, excellent essays, and the reproductions are crisp and detailed. All in all a beautiful book and well worth having in any contemporary art book collection. Review: Excellent book at a great price - Excellent book and a great value at the price. This is well illustrated and contains multiple essays by those who knew Twombly at all stages of his career. Particularly enjoy early reviews: "Nothing there," says Donald Judd. The New York Times thinks the scribbles are ridiculous. And then the Europeans who loaded up on his work, everything they could get their hands on, after her left unappreciative New York, enthralled by Pop at the time, for Italy where he enjoyed success for the remainder of his life. Nice full page illustrations. Probably the second best text on his work, large and weighty, in every sense.

Very informative and great writing
Really worth the money. Reproductions are great. I learned so much from the book. Scholarly but enjoyable reading. A very large beautiful book on a great artist.

This is an exhibition catalogue, a very good one.
Highly informative, engrossing, educational and altogether beautiful book. As an appreciation of Twombly, it is superb. It does not, however, contain an extensive collection of sumptuous plates in which to get lost in Twombly’s art.

A visually complex artist.
This is a remarkably beautiful book. I go back to it over and over for inspiration.

not just scribbles
somehow Mr Twombly created moving art out of scratches & scribbles -- I'll never get tired of looking at this book -- really appreciate the printing as well --

Poche immagini e qualità della Stampa in bassa definizione. Mancano dipinti fondamentali, reso.

If you are a Basquiat fan, you need to delve into Twombly a bit. His inter-textual references are way over my head, but it doesn't really matter. His work is enjoyable on many levels.
