AMD is back with ryzen!
Upgraded from a fx 8350. Totally worth the upgrade! Pros: Uses less energy Am4 platform Better single and multi core performance compared to fx series chips Cons: Single core performance is a little lower than intel Compared to intel and overclocking I was considering buying a intel i5 over the ryzen 5 1400, but I was glad i didn't. My main reason for choosing the 5 1400 over a intel i5 is because the am4 socket will have a longer life span over lga 1151. Another reason is games are starting to use more cores and threads. The 5 1400 has the same number of cores but has 8 threads compared to 4 threads on the i5. Overclocking was straight forward and was able to take it to 3.7ghz without touching the voltage and using the stock cooler. I also love the look of the new amd stock coolers! But if you are wanting to overclock past 3.7ghz I would recommend a different cooler. When it comes to intel you have to buy their expensive z170 or z270 (starting around $120) boards, and have a k series chip to overclock. On ryzen you only need a b350 (starting around $70) board or higher to overclock, and all ryzen cpus can overclock. Gaming Gaming on this chip has been a joy. Don't listen to people when they say you need super fast ram with ryzen. It really only comes in handy if you are running a gtx 1080 or above. My frame time and fps has gone way up compared to my old fx 8350. No more big dips in fps for me! I only game at 1080p 60fps so i cant comment on higher fps gaming. I highly recommend overclocking this chip sense you will get a big increase in performance and its really easy to do. Stock cooler stays pretty silent while gaming and is more than enough. In short if you are trying to decide between a ryzen 5 1400, and any i5 processor I would pick the ryzen 5 1400 hands down!

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A DEDICATED GPU
It's a great CPU and an excellent deal considering the 2000 series isn't a huge jump in performance at this level and costs more $$. It's important to note that you WILL need a dedicated GPU to use this CPU even on a board with ports for video. If you need to use onboard video get a CPU with GPU capability (like a 2400G, anything in the G series or with Vega cores) otherwise you'll have a bad time. Paired with a simple cheap $30 GPU this thing moves though, and it's nice to have the GPU even if you're not gaming to keep the heat off the board. The price difference is negligible and worth it. Even a base model HD 5450 or 6450 1GB can do a lot for basic games and simple rendering, making a budget machine punch way above it's price point. Move to a nice GPU and you have a lot of machine for the money.

Works great for the cost. Be careful when adjusting heatsink outer sleeve.
They added a screw to the bottom of the outer ring, right underneath the logo. So it won't just come off if you just squeeze and tug like before. The CPU on the other hand works great. Tried playing some fairly recent games (Elden Ring, RE2) with only the processor and it's a pleasant surprise. I ran them at 720p low settings though so temper your expectations.

Solid & Reliable Quad Core Processor; Better Performance than Modern i3 and i5
The Ryzen 5 1400 is a good starting CPU in comparison to the i3 and i5 series of Intel CPU's. The price for performance in comparison to those other CPU's is massive. It's more efficient then the i5 7400 which is competing directly against it. This is great for both gaming and video editing processes and overall allows most people to do there daily computing and light rendering CPU tasks with little problems. With a 3D Mark score of about 4,000 during my tests, it fares well against its competitors. If you're looking for a solid quad-core CPU on a budget and the 50 dollars between this and a 1600 is out of your budget, this is the way to go.

A great CPU Bundle (when overclocked) for the price!
I am completely satisfied with this package. Although the base clock was a bit unsatisfactory, by tweaking the processor, I was able to hit 3.8Ghz and let me tell you, it can run PUBG at Ultra 1080p with zero frame drops compared to my 3.7Ghz tweak! This CPU is a bang for your buck, as well as the stock cooler which is the Stealth. It's silent and can keep up the Overclocked CPU temps with no problem at 3.8Ghz!

... the AM2 platform to AM4 and could not be happier. Stable at a very mild 3
Upgraded from the AM2 platform to AM4 and could not be happier. Stable at a very mild 3.8Ghz overclock with the stock heatsink at 1.296v. Runs cool and the fan is near silent. 4 cores/8 threads makes my moderate productivity and encoding tasks blazing fast. Gaming has been great as well. I used to get noticeable lag when going into highly populated towns..now instances load more quickly and framerate is buttery smooth. Thanks AMD!

Great upgrade from the fx series
if you are on a budget but want to shift from the old FX series, this is a great option. i decided to get it after I missed the black friday sell on the 1600. HOWEVER, it is great for gaming and it does have decent future-proofing with 8 threads. I am able to play and stream PUBG in 1080p 30fps and still get around 80 fps with no overclocking. This is great for someone who enjoys PC gaming and paired with a good GPU it can handle just about anything!

ONLY FOR WINDOWS 10
I didn't think I would have to write a bad review for a great processor, but I couldn't even use it because I only used Windows 7 and early OS. Although you can probably run windows 7 without needing to upgrade to a windows 10, it would be easier to just run windows 10, and I dislike the OS as it isn't user friendly. Ryzen was said to support windows 7, but you would have to jump through hoops to make it work. I need a system that will work out of the box when I need to update, and I have been trying to upgrade from a Vishera Quad-Core, which still works to this day. Unless Ryzen official supports earlier windows versions, I will not buy this item again. Plus it costs me a bit more just to return it. I guess you get what you pay for. Although I am an AMD fan over Intel.

Ryzen 5 1400

Great experience
Hey thanks Amazon for convincing me of the obvious path to a computer upgrade. I have for the past five years been working with an Intel i5 2450 CPU with integrated graphics, 8gb ram laptop to process photography. Corporate, sports a thousand plus raw images an event from there edit down to one hundred sharp J pegs for web publication, overnight. The i5 is great to process individual images but it began to struggle when the workload increased, like trying to multitask while opening and displaying the images from an external hard drive or saving processed pictures when in a hurry to start another at the same time. The laptop got the job done but it is slow to start. So a few weeks ago I started to troll Amazon for computers and ended up buying most of the component parts to build an affordable upgrade. I am really impressed with the experience, first the purchasing process which required some extensive research was at my fingertips, literally as the payment. It took but a few days for all the parts to arrive and during that down time I was able to find an SSD and graphics card on sale. I guess, with a smile, that due to all the research that sent me to You tube videos, it took but an hour to assemble the parts into a running computer. The software, drivers and BIOS downloads and updates were as seamless an operation as the assembly. So now I have a Rysen 5 1400 paired to a Gigabyte AB 350 gaming board with 8 GB of Ballistix DDR4 ram, one WD 930gb hard drive all in a Rosewill Challenger S gaming case. Oh and lets not forget the Samsung SSD, Zotac Geforce GT 730 graphics card and Windows 10 64. The results are amazing, start up is now measured in seconds, almost no lag time exists when double clicking an image from an external hard drive into the processing software window and saving the file, is almost instant. As for the dedicated graphics the improved detail on the monitor appears as significant as the new knowledge I have acquired that allows me to boast that I know a lot more about computers now. Moreover, now that I have a gaming board and new knowledge I can figure out how to overclock the Rysen, upgrade the GPU, or add NVMe high speed memory to better the 58 seconds it currently takes the i5 to complete a game of Free Cell solitaire or should I get a mouse with USB 3 nextgen speed. Thanks Amazon could not have done it without you and ….youtube???
