is the fan noisy at medium speed level? What is the noise level?

It is quiet but this fan smokes. Yes, like several others have noted, this fan makes a melting, buring smell and very light smoke begins to come out of the little engine part of the fan. I returned mine at Kohls. I could not take it all back apart and fit it back into the box again, so i just brought the whole entire fan to Kohls and Kohls sends it back to Amazon. A fan that smokes is dangerous.

how tall is the fan ? will it blow over a bed ?

Top of Fan in fully-raised position measures 48" inches from the floor. My wife and I use this fan to provide a gentle breeze over our bed, which measures 27" above the floor.

Hi, the blades are plastic and the 'grill' cover is metal. The inner pole is metal, but on the outside it's all plastic. Even though the base is plastic, it doesn't feel flimsy or tips over (which happens with the tower style ones often). So far it's been working fine- pretty much as expected (no bells and whistles though). Hope this helps.
