Great product - and excellent vendor
The splint is well made and durable for the time period prescribed for treatment. The vendor, IthacaSports.com, has the best customer service I have encountered. The splint was well wrapped and shipped almost immediately. A phone call to the vendor was promptly answered (by a human) and questions resolved. I highly recommend the product and, especially, this vendor -- IthacaSports.

Ingenious design, functional, easy to use product helps heal trigger finger/thumb
Oval-8 Finger Splint Single Size Pack - Size 9 (Package of 1) I was delighted to find this design of finger splint, having struggled with athletic self stick bandages, clumsy braces, and those horrible metal splints. I have managed two trigger fingers for years using a tube made out of athletic bandage at night to keep the fingers straight and allow them to rest. When I developed a trigger thumb, it was critical to find a way to immobilize the thumb as I wanted to avoid surgery. I found the Oval-8 originally in a medical supply store while looking for a better athletic tape, and was absolutely delighted at the simplicity of design, sturdiness, and easy of use. Cheaper to buy on Amazon as well. Each sized splint is designed to be both a full and half size depending on which end is put on first - and my thumb swells occasionally, so I keep several sizes on hand and can easily choose the right fit for that day. Washing hands, using gloves, performing any task is pretty easy with minor functional issues (hard to put on jewelry for example). After about 6 months of wearing the Oval-8, my trigger thumb pain and inflammation is gone, and I can actually function without it now. Be aware that if you wear the Oval-8 18-24 hours a day, you may develop skin irritation at the points of most contact. I solved that problem by wearing a small bandaid over the knuckle of my thumb (just wear a larger size Oval-8). Theorizing that my condition likely would reoccur if I just stopped using the Oval-8, I now wear the splint at the office for computer work, and at home part of the day. I remove it when I get home from work and use the hand normally during the evening. Then I use one of the tubes I create from a pretty purple athletic wrap, so my hand is quite the sight at night, with the thumb and two fingers decorated! Using the softer option for sleep works for me. I highly recommend the Oval-8. Ingeniously designed products like this help consumers of health care manage conditions that otherwise require invasive techniques at much lower cost with many fewer side effects. As a medical librarian, I teach consumer health and plan to use this experience as a case study example for my workshops.

Hand therapist sized me but this was too big and I lost it
It does what it is designed to do, I guess, but my hand therapist sized me to a size 9, but when this came, it was too large, and it came off my finger. I lost it before I could return it. I tried the knockoffs instead because I couldn't bear guessing on sizes with these -- they are too expensive. It MIGHT have been more comfortable than the knockoffs, but I'm unsure--I didn't have it long enough. Most disappointing was the sizing. It's inconsistent with what the hand therapist suggested.

Perfect for my trigger thumb until I could have surgery
If you have a trigger finger or trigger thumb and you want to support the joint without having to wrap your fingers in gauze and worry about the gauze getting dirty, this is the best little splint! I wore it before my trigger thumb release surgery so I could use my hands. I also wore it after surgery when the doctor removed all bandaging but the stitches weren't ready to be removed. Highly recommend this item. Make sure to get some assorted sizes because if you are swollen, that will need a bigger splint size.

Keeping my trigger thumb from clicking
I only just received this and it's keeping my thumb stable and not clicking. I tried a wrist up to the thumb brace and I could still bend my finger so the wrist brace was pretty much useless for trigger thumb. I’m so glad I found this thing. And I don’t know how someone might break this but I don’t find it to be flimsy at all. I don’t even understand Heather can be bad reviews for this. I measured my thumb with a real sewing tape measure, it fits perfectly. I don’t have exact recovery yet but hopefully within a couple weeks it will stop doing the clicking. Also ask for my picture you can see where my chiropractor put the K-tape. So adding that to it seems to be good to keep it pulled back as well. The sizing seems to be just simple ring sizing

Size 9 is not a size 9... it reads on splint 8 - 9
UPDATE: 10/8/13 ** WEAR IT UPSIDE DOWN** I had to take it off. The hard Plastic oval 8 around my knuckle was digging into my knuckle every time it BENT. If you wear it as PICTURED, your finger eventually bends to the point of the Trigger Finger thunking. Isn't this supposed to hold the finger from BENDING? Well it WILL NOT STOP YOUR FINGER FROM BENDING if you try and wear it as PICTURED in the photo. So I've had it in my drawer for weeks and my knuckle is still sore from the irritation of wearing the hard plastic over my knuckle for over 9 hours that one day. TODAY I decided to "google" Oval 8 finger splints. I discovered you can wear it UPSIDE DOWN and it will stops your finger from bending. In fact it is PERFECT worn upside down with the "THICK ring looking Band" ON TOP of the finger, just below the top of your knuckle - NOT UNDER the finger as Pictured! Worn correctly - it is just snug enough to hug hug your finger, just before the "bending knuckle" and the oval 8 PART is UNDER the finger and prevents it from bending. DUH! Therefore it stops the bending of the finger... PERIOD! The size 8-9 is perfect for me if worn that way. NO purple finger either. I though it would slide off, but it is holding nicely as I type and there is not tightness to make me want to futz with it. I can see This is going to work. YEEEE HA! ============================================================================= FIRST REVIEW - WORN AS PICTURED IN PHOTO!!!! I actually went out and bought a ring sizer kit. You know with all the rings on it. I am a size 9. However you should order a size up because it reads 8-9 and the 9 is too tight. It seemed ok (a tad tight)at first until I noticed my finger underneath was PURPLE! Purple as in stops the circulation. This is a hard plastic and not soft in any way - so there is NO GIVE. I liked the way you can bend your finger down, but it stops it (almost stops it) to the point where your trigger finger will snap. You can force it to close further, but it is a reminder to not do it. I hope the 9 - 10 fits better. Had I known this was an (EIGHT) 8 - 9 I would have bought the 9 - TEN. However they do not tell you the varying size difference. That is just plain misleading and leads to one ordering a size that will not fit. (I WROTE TO THE SUPPLIER) THEY HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF REPLACING IT AND WON'T TAKE IT BACK. THEY WANT ME TO BUY AN EXPENSIVE HEAT GUN AND HEAT IT UP AND STRETCH IT. I TRIED BOILING IT IN HOT WATER, TO NO AVAIL.) I give it one star for the misleading ring sizing AND THEIR REFUSAL TO MAKE IT RIGHT BUY EXCHANGING IT.
