Do these work with dimmable sockets? I'm having a hard time connecting to my dimmable ceiling fan light

Yes they work with dimmable sockets. I have them in 2 lamps that are dimmable. You can also use Alexa to dim them.

Do i have to download the app? in the amazon alexa app, if i go to add a new device>light and choose this brand, can't i just set it up from there?

I downloaded the app. It finds the bulb and lets me name it. Alexa picks it up automatically and controls the lights. I love them. I have different shades of white light depending on where the light is and its use. I may use the color function for the holidays.

Do you have the name each socket to turn on and off?

You don't have to, but it helps if you want to easily control the lighting with voice commands.
