Under Yellowstone, America's first national park, lies the Yellowstone Caldera, a giant hot spot for volcanic activity. What scientists call a super volcano. Now after hundreds of thousands of years lying dormant it threatens to erupt. This eruption could wipe out much of the United States killing millions. Suddenly, without warning, a small part of the caldera bursts. Temperatures plummet and the sky fills with dirty, black clouds of volcanic ash and destructive lightning. Lava erupts from the earth, boils over the crater rims, and rushes across the country side at speeds over 100 miles per hour vaporizing forests, animals, and tourists. As the rest of the caldera puffs and steams and threatens to explode, it's up to Yellowstone's top scientist and an adrenaline junkie Park Ranger to halt the erupting caldera. They must plug the lava, as well as stop the poisonous volcano clouds from spreading before the sky turns black and the entire world is frozen in a permanent, apocalyptic volcano winter. "A new dark age."
This televised movie starts out with a fury of action only be misdirected to two days earlier. Why so many filmmakers employ this gambit is beyond me. Nothing irritates me more than to become absorbed in something only to have it abruptly halt so the story can take a step or two behind to the time leading up to the crisis. And then they repeat the crisis. The only difference in this case is the involvement of space, time, continuum, something or other, that allows one of the characters to talk to herself long enough to give herself some of the solution to their problem: stopping a volcano eruption like none other (aren't they all), that will shove us into the dark ages. At any rate, it's a paradox. Besides the problem of averting disaster, there's also a pseudo relationship between the brainy scientist (Juliet Aubrey) and ranger Charlie (Richard Burgi). They bicker and snipe at each other, which, as anyone knows, is the perfect formula for romance (a happy marriage would be quite another matter). Aubrey is a British actress who has appeared in such shows as, Midsomer Murders, Dalziel and Pascoe, Primeval, Vera, and Inspector Lewis. Why she thought this movie would be a step up for her career is anyone's guess. Richard Burgi usually takes what he can get. I have to say that I'm a sucker for films about volcanoes (good or bad). This one is neither better nor worse than most. It has the usual implausible plot, the FX is adequate but not altogether convincing, the characters are pretty standard; as entertainment goes, it does the job it's supposed to. I found that I enjoyed it enough to put it into my collection for future viewings. It will pair nicely with other disaster flicks of the same type.

I enjoyed the special effects, It's A Movie
This isn't a science film, it is cheap entertainment you can get at home especially on a cold snowy night. I bought it and was satisfied with my purchase. I knew exactly what I was purchasing, sure, alot of it went over my head. If you are looking for high brow entertainment, then choose PBS. My taste are of the UPN type, Star Trek Voyager, Seven Days, The Sentinel and so on. I enjoyed the ride.

Super Eruption
having arrived in fine condition and in time, I watched it, only to discover I already have this movie under a different name. It is a good movie, worth having and making you think about what could happen if Yellowstone does erupt.

Also a very great disaster movie
Also a very great disaster movie. Yellowstone is about to erupt and for all intents and purposes this is a singular event ( One that destroys life on this planet). But due to a special twist we just might be saved. It is a fun movie and the scenery is incredible. Disaster lovers, this is a must!

Eh
Ok, i love disaster movies. Watched this despite it being syfy. Syfy can't seem to put together a good movie (although they do some excellent series). First, I really try not to judge an entertainment movie on the science, but it is SO bad in this one. Couldn't they at least have gotten someone with at least an elementary school understanding of science as an adviser? Few examples, dumping water into the magma chamber.....why someone who is supposedly as educated as Kate would know that wouldn't have a chance of working. In the original "timeline" (yes, there is a time travel aspect to this, where future kate tells current kate how to stop the eruption) yellowstone erupts, and the map shows lava all over the USA, as well as other parts of the world. Ok, ash, sure, but lava? nope. Then they also have a car having to outrun lava....you can outwalk lava. And an early scene where a couple gets burnt bad in the water, and get shipped off to the hospital.....later the same day they're out of the ICU.....ok, they'd probably not even be out of the emergency room yet, much less out of ICU........that's just a few of the (beyond bad) science in the movie. Again, i try not to judge the science in an entertainment movie, but when it's THIS bad, i can't help but do so. Aside from the science, it's about what you would expect for a made for tv movie. Mediocre acting, mediocre script, pretty bad special effects. If you want a good yellowstone supervolcano (and i mean GOOD) movie, watch the BBC's "Supervolcano".

One of the best disaster films that i have seen and comes out at the end with a happy ending. it's worth 5 stars because of the quality of the film itself. i would recommend it to anybody.

Non-blockbuster disaster movie at its finest ! I sometimes like these to have some really poor acting in the to keep the entertainment level up, but this was (to my untrained eye) was a ham-free-film.
