This knife is one that I've owned for the third time with this one. Prettier wood than the previous ones, others had plainer materials. What I love about it is the unique way that it opens. When you hold it in your hand with the edge pointing up and the point to the left and you push on the back of the handle, the Blaine slides through the handle and out and locks into place. To reverse the process you simply pull on the same piece on the handle and the blade slides back into the body. It's the most you need knife I've ever seen. This one has a layer of Damascus hammered steel on either side of what is probably a much harder center core that holds an edge better, though that's just my theory. It seems that making the blade out of a single piece of Damascus steel would have been easier, so there must have been a reason and that reason is the hardness of the part of the blade that holds an edge. Why else go to all that trouble? The slot in the blade is a guide for pin in the front of the handle as the blade slides back and forth through its clever opening and closing mechanism. The rear pivot point in the front slide pin are reinforced with nylon bushings or pads that keep the blade from feeling loose if you try to move it from side to side. It's a good way to test the quality of a knife by trying to rock the blade from side to side when it's open or even when it's closed and this knife and it's blade are Rock solid. There is simply no looseness in the blade when it's open or when it's closed. All in all I consider this knife and it's layered Damascus blade to be a work of art and a design Wonder. If you look at the photo he will see what I'm talking about when I say that the blade extends through the handle. You can also see the bushings in both ends of the handle, that give the knife a very secure feeling. You will enjoy owning this knife and showing it to your friends!

Bought this because it is so unique. I even managed to learn how to open it without stabbing myself. Really cool well made and the sheath alone is worth the price. If you collect knives this is a must have just don't show a friend without giving them 101 how to open it. One of my favorites in my collection, and it is incredibly sharp.

The Damascus steel finish is well done and attractive. The VG-10 core is a very good material for the edge and the knife comes razor sharp. The mechanism is clever, and the pivots and the detents work smoothly. It is laterally rigid, and the pivots have screws, so disassembling and tuning is possible. At $35, the quality is far beyond what I expected. I do have several concerns with safety in day-to-day use. First, it might not be safe to shove in your pant pocket. Because of the pivot arrangement, the blade can deploy with compressive load on the ends so if you bend over, it could conceivably deploy into your thigh. There is a detent and it is not clear whether this type of load happens, but it bears mentioning for the people who might not notice the potential problem. Second, when open, the handle extends well above the sharpened area of the blade. This could cause a user to grab too far up and grip the edge by mistake placing their index finger on the blade. On the other hand, there is a good curve for the thumb on the top of the handle and a good tang on the blade, so it is possible to use it safely, but the handle feels short like this, and I know I'll need to be careful. I will definitely keep because it's cool, the quality is good, and it's too cheap to pass up. Just be careful.

Pretty cool and unique opening mechanism. I read the reviews and thought "ha, I can open a knife without cutting myself". Well, immediately nicked my finger. Once you see how it works, you're fine. But that first time, no joke, be careful. This comes razor sharp out of the box! Feels solidly built, nice quality. Appears to be real Damascus. The gimmicky nature of the handle makes this a creature of novelty as opposed to something you'd EDC or use as a true tool. I'll probably use it to open mail or maybe as a conversation piece for slicing cheese when guests come by.

Coolest knife I've owned. Bought it just for the appearance and design. Had to sharpen but it wasn't completely dull. Pay close attention to how it opens and closes, I suggest watching a video

I adore this knife. It is gorgeous, but it’s the most dangerous knife I’ve ever owned. As a piece of art and curiosity this is top level. As an every day use pocket knife it’s a liability nightmare due to the imaginative engineering of how it opens combined with the sharpest stock edge I have ever purchased. If you have an enemy you would like to publicly shame, toss this knife to them and watch them gash their self trying to open it.

Right off the bat, it was clear from the photos that this is not a Every Day Carry. I bought it for my collection, because of the unique and clever deployment system. It is a very attractive conversation piece. It comes nasty sharp right out of the box, and is very sturdy. I disassemble the knife and smoothed out a few key areas at the pivots, making it much slicker on deployment. Unlike a previous review, on close inspection you can clearly see the San Mai construction and that the V10 core is clad with Damascus. Thought it is a single steel pattern weld, mostly decorative. My only Cons are that Bronze washers would have provided a smoother action and more durability. Brass tone heads on the pivot screws for some bling. Overall, for the price, it's a no brainer for the Collector.
