What is the purpose of flipping the waffle maker?

Are in a regular waffle iron. The lid can slightly raise up as the waffle cooks in a flipped iron, the heavy base on top makes for more even cooking.

Wasn’t expensive enough to worry about it. Used it 4/5 times. Still makes great waffles

Are the trays easily removed for cleaning?

No! That is the one problem with this unit. It makes delicious waffles but the clean up is a little more difficult because the trays are not removable.
