Tailgate wasn't a Prime or a Magnus (even if he says differently) and he only even had the one cartoon appearance. But James Robert's More Than Meets The Eye made him a 6 million year old child and popular enough to get this toy (yay!). His robot mode is definitely based on MTMTE (which resembles his original toy) but is closer to the original toy when transformed. I'm not sure where the flames have come from but they do add some detail to a very plain car. In the comics he claimed to be a Bomb Disposal expert so his Targetmaster turns into a bomb disposal looking thingy (I don't know much about disposing bombs) who is based on the Micromaster Neutro, who probably does make Tailgate seem well known but it's nice.Being a MTMTE addict I love him and he's the right size-ish too.

He looks just like the version of the character from the IDW comics. He has a great I recommend displaying him next to Combiner Wars Cyclonus so they can be buddies, like in "More than Meets the Eye." The only thing preventing me from giving him five stars is that the little snowplow guy is kind of useless: He doesn't have a real transformation; you just stand him up on his back bumper, and he's a robot.

The figure itself was good, but some of the car parts get in the way of poseability. The instructions also didn't include a key step to transforming the figure, but it wasn't difficult to figure out.The main issue that I had was that the figure was listed as "new", but the packaging had lots of tape on it, crease marks, tears, and signs where the blister was not connected to the box at all. I don't know for certain that it wasn't repackaged, but I'm a little suspicious.

I have expected a more articulated figure. Arms and back kibble makes the figure far from perfect.

My grandson loved it and that's all for me. He has several transformers and can play with them for hours.

You're probably only going to get this guy if you're a fan of the IDW comics. He's okay at best otherwise. His only failing is his minicon Groundbuster who transforms by falling on his face and turns into a weird shovel weapon that looks unwieldy and broken. I'd only recommend if you absolutely love the character in IDW's More Than Meets the Eye.

Arrived with my other Transformer order which was very quick. Exactly what I expected and it is a great value. Can't wait to see my son Christmas morning with this.
