Many improvements over the classic rat trap
I had to go looking for an alternative to the classic rat trap. They changed the design on the old wooden style rat trap and added some cheap parts that made it pretty useless. This on the other hand works like a charm. What a beast. It's pretty brutal, but that leads to a quick death. Nothing worse than having to kill a rat after it has been caught. it's a completely different concept than the classic rat trap and a great improvement. There is no way to get to the bait without stepping on the sensitive plate around it. And because the bait goes in a little cup you don't have to get all creative about how you get things on the hook like you do with a classic rat trap. personally, I don't want to deal with cleaning a rat trap after I've killed something with it. I just throw out the whole thing and start over. It's worth it to me, so I think of this as a one used item, which I'm sure the manufacturer appreciates. If someone gave me a dollar price for how much it would cost to get rid of one rat it would be about the cost of the trap. It did take a little practice figuring out how to finesse setting it up. It's not exactly obvious. I really appreciate the fact that you don't have to get your fingers anywhere near the danger zone to set it up like you do with a classic rat trap. I read some of the negative reviews and it does make sense that this would be hard for someone who didn't have good hands or coordination, but a classic trap would be much more dangerous to handle. During the recent crazy rainstorm they were trying to get out of the weather and literally ate their way through my garage around an electrical outlet and got in the house. Four rats in three days. Case closed.

Break easily but if good do work!
Good trap but the plastic latch that holds it open in back breaks easily. Bought 12 traps and did catch lots of rats, plus a bird, snake and frog too. But only 8-9 still work. Good concept but cheap plastic parts.

Hard to set//// And Reply
Older versions worked perfectly. These are hard to set and some won't reset at all. Very disappointing received email to reply to The Good stuff who offered a refund and when select the link there is no place to reply just a dead end.. i would settle for the refund if it was available and try the product again but that option does not work

Works Great
These are awesome. They are super easy to bait and set. I put 5 of them outside. In the first 36 hours I have caught 6 chipmunks and one mouse. I have had two get away so far (trap tripped but nothing caught).

Effective
We live in the country and have roof rats that set up in our garage and they keep coming back. I set up three of these in the closet where it stays. The first night it got trapped first use. Such an easy clean up too! I love that theyโre reusable too, great product

dropped star - (new updates in edits). Will not last as long as you think
Original: Not sure how this will handle larger sized rats but it certainly will T-Rex the hell out of field mice and young rats for sure. I started with glue traps and there are 2 without full tails as they chewed them off. These however do have some power, I know! The trigger plate can be sensitive as I learned while loading the chamber with chocolate syurp/peanut butter mix...my hand slipped and it chomped on my finger tip right along the cuticle. Delayed pain because i was in shock. I iced the heck out of it and let me tell you, I saw the throbbing chomp line and purple mark right across. Thus, young rats will get their heads/necks smashed. Within my first few days....I already caught 2 and geez did it crushed them. The catches slowed so I remembered that the Dept of health said they became partial to nutella and grease. So I had some air fryer chicken grease left over in there....heated it up a little and let the oatmeal soak it up. Packed it in the bait holder and reset it all. Let me tell you - that is the magic!! Cooked Chicken grease and bread or oats soaked in it. Another 3 not even overnight. Found them while taking out the trash can. So it seems these are effective but the dealbreaker is your bait. The only reason why I did not give it 5 stars is because a couple traps are a tad twitchier than the rest so almost got snapped again but overall, I will certainly buy them again. Combine it with bait stations for long term and you'll be moving in the right direction. Update: 4/25/26 - I bought another set to put around every burrow under the deck. This is war. Update: 5/10/26 - since setting these, I've caught 8 so far ranging from young adult mouse sized to large hamster sized. There were triggered empties in between but they have been working. I think the poison has gotten some of the larger rats (as they probably got themselves unstuck somehow as I found 1 of the biggest ones with crushed ribs and all but escaped and died in the gutter extension exit - saw the tail sticking out after following the smell) so now the younger are left. So far the younger ones are dispatched quickly though. I did have one of my original traps fail to hold open so that one lasted I'd say give or take 12 snaps. I will say that one has been the busier burrow so it was working for the money. So far these have proven much more effective than the antiquated wood/spring bar traps. 5/16/26 - 2 more failed, when the sun warms it up the traps snap themselves. So as of today, I am down a total of 3. 5/31/26 2 more are failing. i was doing yard work after resetting 2 before I began and when I stopped to refuel the mower, I heard a snap. Found nothing in it with no squirrels and such around. I reset it again and after an hour or so it triggered. I checked the other and it did as well. One was a little older and the other was a recent replacement for the one from 2 weeks ago. The weather was sunny and temps were about 75F. If this can't handle 75F then it sure as hell won't survive a summer in the north east. Dropped another star. 6/3/26 Overall stats so far: 16 catches (young adults to field mice sized, looks like 1 hunny but it chewed it's leg off and a small bird dumb enough to go inside the lattice to pick - how it even saw that is beyond me), only half the traps are working properly, the 3 either doesn't hold for more than 5 minutes or at least until the sun warms it up a little (~60 - 70F). Between the bait stations and the initial chomping of these traps, I think it slowed the colony down. I pulled off the lattice and moved the dirt around into the holes I could see without crawling under and getting panta - so far I didn't see any obvious reburrowing. I may have missed a hole or so deeper in but I'll see when I have more time. Overall, the conclusion is if you don't make the fury of kills early on, these will not weather well. If they made metal parts for the trigger then maybe but until then, these will start failing after avg 10 snaps and/or hotter weather. For me, mixed feeling as it did catch a good amount considering.
