After reading the first several pages, I knew this was the perfect book for me. I've stuggled with binge eating fo 40 years. After that I began to eat all day long, never eating a regular meal, I over ate some of the time and most of the food wasn't nutritious causing me to struggle with weight gain. I tried dieting but that only made my cravings for food worse.i'm now 67 years old and just now learning how to eat balanced meals and snacks without bingeing. It is easy to read and understand and has the best info to help you stop binging. The book focuses on how to stop emotional eating and the numerous techniques you can utilize to end the binge cycle. Good no nonsense approach
I had been following Ali Kerr for a while and decided to buy her book (after I had stopped some of my destructive habits on my own, but I really did like what she had to say in other things, so I wanted to go ahead and read her book so I could see if there were any holes in what I was doing that could be filled with more information). I do think her method is very effective; I was already doing a lot of it intuitively. I give it 4 stars as opposed to 5 though because there’s a lot of eastern mysticism in her method (although she’s not by any means calling it that, but she does talk about meditation, chanting, and mentions yoga). As a Christian, I feel that can be dangerous as you’re opening other doors in the spiritual realm (even if you don’t realize you’re opening them). She also talks about not cutting out entire groups of food (i.e., low carb), and while on one hand I can see why that might be ok for some, I personally found that without going Keto no matter what I did, no matter how healthy I ate, I was never satisfied, and no matter what I did my weight kept creeping up. I personally am a HUGE advocate of the keto lifestyle, and I do think that giving up refined sugar completely and adopting a low carb lifestyle was fundamental in me finally getting my binge urges completely under control. Before that, I just couldn’t understand why I was literally ALWAYS hungry, and I always needed to eat SOOOO much more than the average person. Keto saved me from that. Anyway, all that to say that I do think the book is good and can really help people, but if you’re not really grounded already spiritually following her methodology completely might open up some doors in the spiritual realm that you don’t really want to open (I know I’m sounding a bit ethereal here to some, but regardless of what you want to believe, the spiritual realm is REAL, and you WILL be affected by it either for good or bad regardless of whether or not you believe it...).

Recovery IS possible!
It made sense to me, helped me become more compassionate with myself i I "lost my footing" and relapsed. I so appreciate thatThey start slowly, eating "safe foods" and then moving into intuitive eating. I recommend this book to anyone suffering with an ED related to binging alone, or pinging and purging (which I was a slave to for 30 years) In short, this book helped me realized I could actually do this! I could could become fully recovered. I remember thinking "there is NO WAY I could make it even for one day without binging and purging" This "false refuge", (another expression of eating disorder) that I had suffered from for so long, felt impossible to become healthy, to eat intuitively, and not to use food as a way to not pay attention to my life's problems, to escape or take refuge. Although we may feel that these false refuges help us, in fact when I finally became "present" and realized the damage that my ED had done to my body, and negatively affected my family relationships. This book started me on my way, and I'm not looking back! I especially benefitted from making space between the desire to eat or binge. It really helps me calm down, and I found as I scanned my body and listened to really needed at I realized it wasn't that yummy looking baked good behind the bakery case! Yes I have gain about 20 lbs, and there is a chance I might gain more? I was severely underweight before I started my recovery. In make it a rule not to weigh myself...EVER! I love my new body, what it has carried me through, and what it is still capable of today. I love and accept every curve as part of the glorious blessing of having a body and nourishing it physically, mentally, spiritually. I am so grateful to Alison Kerr for being bold and open, in turn I now feel the same way. I want to shout from the rooftops that recovery IS POSSIBLE!!

Good ideas, bad writing
I’m struggling reading this book. It looks like the general ideas are pretty decent and could possibly be helpful, but I’m having trouble getting past the first chapters with the way the person is writing this book. A lot of repetitive useless wordage. It’s like when you write a paper and it’s not as long as you want it to be so you fill it up with fluff to make it look longer.

Amazing logic - the book is well-written and convincing. To be consulted /read every day.

I struggled with an eating disorder my whole life . From anorexia to binge eating. So I was desperate to find some guidance . I found the book really helpful , as it gives small but realistic advice and steps. Something I can actually follow and it feels like it’s a short enough book to just go back to and read if I fall off track. Left mz feeling really good and positive about my journey and excited to use the steps ( which I have and they do help) . :) can’t recommend enough

I’m in awe. This is the best self help book I have read in a lifetime, and it’s surely helping me learn my way around binge eating with compassion, wisdom, and clear and consistent steps. Congratulations to the author and everyone involved in this project, I’m so glad to have found this book.

The Binge Code is a must read for anyone with who struggles with binge eating, emotional eating or just feeling out of control around food in general. I’ve tried numerous approaches to overcoming it and nothing really worked (I was so desperate I even tried a shamanic cleansing ritual!). Reading The Binge Code felt like someone finally explaining how the inside of my brain works, and why I had such a strong desire to binge on food. The book spoke directly to me and I had many eye opening moments. It just clicked and I realised this was exactly what I have been looking for. Here is what I like about the book - It makes perfect sense and explains why you feel compelled to binge! - Its practical and easy to follow. - Its very inspiring and motivational. I was excited to get started just reading the book. - The book doesn’t treat you like you are broken or “faulty” in any way. In fact it is very much the opposite. I felt liberated. - It’s realistic. It doesn’t expect you to heal over night. - The bonus tools, like the meditation audios are great and help to support the concepts in the book. - It's not a "one single trick" approach, as to many others tend to be. It’s more of a step-by-step methodology, but this works better for me as it ensures that it covers all may bases. What I didn’t like I would like to have read more on excessive exercise. I used to by a gym junkie in the past and I still feel this is an area I need to work stronger on. There is an overlap with Ali’s previous book, the Bulimia Help Method. Some of the ideas are a little similar, but I guess that makes sense as this is the areas she works in. What’s in the book Ali talks about the 7 binge traps that hold us in a continual cycle of bingeing on food. She call these ‘the binge traps’. In the book she dives into each trap, why the trap causes us to binge on food and then explains how to undo each trap. The Seven Binge traps she explores are: 1. The Diet Trap 2. The Yo-Yo Blood Sugar Trap 3. The Nutritional Deficiency Trap 4. The Habit Trap 5. The Food Rules Trap 6. The False Friend Trap 7. The Inner Critic Trap This book contains a strong emphasis on nourishing your body - meaning eating enough, balanced nourishing food. For someone who has a fear of food, this can be a challenge, but the book does walk your through the process step by step. Ali also provides a tool called the Zen10 technique to reduce the intensity of any binges urges. It is essentially a mindful technique, but I have found it really helpful and use it almost daily. Finally, the book, explores the concept of getting the body back in balance, by teaching you an eating system called BioBalancing. Ali says “a balanced body does not want to binge on food, nor hold on to excess weight”. For me this was the final key that really nailed the book for me. I’ve tried intuitive eating in the past, but it I found it too loose and risky. BioBalancing provided me with a framework for eating that I feel very comfortable with. I strongly recommend this book, I wish I had read it years ago. Finally, now there is hope in the horizon, it feels so wonderful. I just want to thank Ali for sharing her story, knowledge and helping us me to heal.
