No. I got the 8in. It's small she wouldn't play with it so you might want yo get t he 11in.

Would this be a good back-to-school gift for the kids?

It is exactly as described. I don’t think my school aged grandchildren would use it. Love it for my two year old grandchild.

Can you turn off when not in use?

It's a cheap writing tablet. No batteries

Can you put cards behind it like you can with the magic sketch boogie board?

No, you just use the pen it comes with too draw and then you press the button and it will erase it for you to start over.
